About the role

We’re looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer to build and improve applications for our clients using Python, React, TypeScript and React Native.

You’ll work across user interfaces, backend services, APIs, databases and automated testing. You must also understand the mobile application lifecycle, including how mobile apps are built and distributed.

This is a junior-to-mid-level opportunity. We assess demonstrated capability and potential rather than requiring a particular degree or fixed number of years’ experience. Junior engineers will receive guidance and review; mid-level engineers will take greater ownership of features within agreed designs.

What you’ll do

• Build maintainable React and TypeScript interfaces and Python backend services using Django or FastAPI.

• Develop and maintain React Native mobile applications.

• Implement REST APIs, connect frontend and backend components, and develop database models and queries.

• Write useful unit and integration tests and contribute to end-to-end testing.

• Investigate defects, improve performance and follow secure coding practices.

• Collaborate with project managers, designers, QA specialists and engineers to clarify requirements and acceptance criteria.

• Estimate your work, communicate progress and raise risks or blockers early.

• Use Git, pull requests and code reviews, documenting relevant technical decisions.

• Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly, checking generated code and protecting client data.

Essential skills

• Practical Python development experience, including building REST APIs with Django or FastAPI.

• React JS and TypeScript: reusable components, hooks, state management and API integration.

• React Native, with an understanding of mobile builds, application distribution and how mobile applications work.

• HTML, CSS and JavaScript for responsive, accessible interfaces.

• Relational databases and SQL, including relationships, ORMs and migrations.

• Automated testing for Python and React applications using tools such as pytest, Vitest, Jest or React Testing Library.

• Git-based collaboration, including branches, pull requests, reviews and merges.

• Security fundamentals: authentication, authorisation, input validation and safe handling of secrets.

• Clear communication, a methodical approach to problem-solving and willingness to learn from feedback.

Useful additional experience

• Go.

• UI libraries such as Material UI or Tailwind CSS.

• End-to-end testing with Playwright, Selenium or equivalent tools.

• AWS, Docker and CI/CD pipelines.

• AI-enabled applications using LLM APIs, structured outputs, tool calling, agents or retrieval-augmented generation.

You do not need experience in every additional technology to apply.

Working arrangements

This is a remote, independent contractor opportunity requiring a full-time commitment. You’ll collaborate with distributed teams and work an agreed schedule providing overlap with UK and Houston-based colleagues and clients.

What success looks like

You deliver features that meet acceptance criteria, include appropriate tests and pass code review. You resolve defects carefully, communicate clearly and develop greater independence as your experience grows.
