Hybrid/ WFH [Head of Legal] at a Rapidly Expanding Global Business Services Company

Position Overview

A well-established international company with a strong market presence and ambitious growth plans is seeking a Head of Legal & Compliance to lead its legal function in Japan. The successful candidate will oversee domestic and international legal matters, strengthen corporate governance, and work closely with senior management to support business expansion and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and develop the Legal & Compliance team.
• Oversee commercial contracts, legal consultations, and regulatory compliance.
• Advise senior management on legal risks and business decisions.
• Support new business development, strategic partnerships, and M&A activities.
• Manage cross-border legal matters and international group governance.
• Oversee board meetings, shareholder meetings, and internal controls.
• Develop legal frameworks, policies, and compliance procedures.
• Improve legal operations through process optimization and technology.

Requirements

Required

• Minimum 5 years of in-house corporate legal experience.
• Strong experience in commercial contracts, legal advisory, and compliance.
• Experience leading projects or mentoring team members.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
• Commercial mindset with the ability to support business growth.

Preferred

• Experience managing a legal team.
• Business-level English proficiency.
• Experience with M&A, international legal matters, or data privacy.
• Japanese or foreign legal qualification.
