General Description of the Role

The Manager, Investigations is responsible for leading timely, objective and well-documented investigations into loss events, theft, fraud, misconduct, security breaches, procedural breaches, illicit/counterfeit rum matters and other incidents that affect JWN people, assets, brands, products and profitability. The role identifies root causes, supports corrective actions and strengthens controls to prevent recurrence.

Operating Context

J. Wray & Nephew operates a vertically integrated, multi-site manufacturing, warehousing, distribution and commercial environment. The security and loss prevention function must protect people, products, brands, physical assets, regulatory certifications and business continuity across Kingston, New Yarmouth, Appleton, JSAERE and off-premises warehouses, while partnering with Supply Chain, Finance, HR, Legal, Commercial, Quality, EHS, external security providers and law enforcement.

Mission - Objectives

To protect JWN by investigating, resolving and preventing loss-related incidents, security breaches, procedural failures and illicit brand activity through fact-based investigations, strong evidence handling, effective law-enforcement partnerships and actionable root-cause recommendations.

Performance Indicators - Criteria

  • Investigations are completed objectively, confidentially, professionally and within agreed response and closure timelines.
  • Incident reports, evidence files, root-cause findings and corrective action recommendations are complete, accurate and auditable.
  • Theft, procedure breach, fraud, counterfeit and illicit rum matters are escalated and actioned with appropriate internal and external partners.
  • Investigation learnings are translated into improved controls, training, communication and policy enforcement.
  • Stakeholders receive timely, factual updates while confidentiality, due process and evidence integrity are preserved.

Investigations and Incident Management

  • Lead investigations into theft, fraud, misconduct, procedural breaches, security breaches, loss events, inventory discrepancies, brand protection matters and other incidents.
  • Develop investigation plans, conduct interviews, review CCTV/access control/vehicle tracking records, gather evidence and prepare factual investigation reports.
  • Identify root causes, control gaps and accountability considerations, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain a secure case management system, investigation log, evidence records and closure tracker.
  • Coordinate with HR, Legal, Internal Audit, Finance, Quality, Supply Chain and site leaders depending on the nature of the matter.

Brand Protection and Illicit Trade Response

  • Lead and coordinate activities related to illicit/counterfeit rum trade, including intelligence gathering, product purchase/testing coordination and field visits to bars, wholesale outlets, supermarkets, events and other relevant locations.
  • Partner with Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime, Customs, Excise, Tax Administration, Police and other agencies to investigate and disrupt illicit product activity.
  • Perform training and awareness sessions to empower authorities to identify and prosecute illicit trade activities.
  • Support collection, transport and documentation of samples in partnership with Quality and government forensic/lab stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports and intelligence briefings for internal leadership and external authorities while preserving confidentiality and evidence integrity.

Compliance, Audits and Control Testing

  • Conduct audits and spot checks to validate the effectiveness of loss prevention measures, security procedures, AEO requirements, Food Defense controls, seal controls and key/access controls.
  • Support supplier/site risk assessments, internal AEO audits, Food Defense activities, contractor orientations and regulatory compliance monitoring.
  • Review incident patterns and exception reports to identify recurring vulnerabilities, weak controls or emerging threats.
  • Track corrective actions to closure and periodically validate sustainability of improvements.

Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting

  • Develop effective relationships with law enforcement, regulatory agencies, professional bodies and private sector counterparts.
  • Prepare monthly investigation dashboards, incident trend analyses, loss summaries and recommendations for the Manager, Security, Investigations, and Risk Management.
  • Provide investigation awareness training and guidance to employees, contractors and managers on reporting, evidence preservation and procedural compliance.
  • Support company sponsored events by identifying investigation or intelligence risks and advising on preventive actions where needed.

Support to Risk Management

  • Collaborate with the Manager, Security to ensure immediate physical security findings are addressed and evidence is preserved.
  • Support policy updates, SOP improvements and training materials based on investigation findings and loss trends.
  • Open, coordinate and close investigations in accordance with approved protocols and escalation criteria.
  • Request relevant records, footage, logs, documentation and statements required for investigations, subject to company policy and legal guidance.
  • Escalate serious findings, suspected misconduct, significant losses and legal/regulatory matters to the Manager, Security, Investigations, and Risk Management.
  • Recommend disciplinary, control, policy, training or supplier/contractor action based on factual findings and stakeholder review to the relevant HR partner.

External: Police, SIB, Customs, Excise and Tax Administration; Government forensic laboratories and related state agencies; Security contractors and investigators; Distributors, suppliers and trade contacts; Professional bodies such as ASIS International

  • 5-7 years of experience in investigations, corporate security, loss prevention, law enforcement, audit, anti-fraud, military or related field.
  • Experience conducting interviews, preparing investigation reports, handling sensitive evidence and working with law enforcement or regulatory bodies.
  • Experience with manufacturing, supply chain, distribution, counterfeit/illicit trade, brand protection or regulated environments is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management Studies, Security Management, Criminal Justice or related discipline is preferred.
  • Professional certification such as PCI, CFE, CPP, PSP or equivalent investigation/security qualification is preferred.
  • Training in interviewing, investigation report writing, evidence handling, chain of custody, root-cause analysis and QHSE/Food Defense requirements is an asset.

  • Will require work outside normal hours, weekends or public holidays for urgent incidents, evidence collection or law-enforcement activity.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and professional conduct in all interactions and documentation.
  • Must comply with all QHSE, Food Safety, Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness requirements.
  • Must preserve confidentiality, due process, evidence integrity and unbiased reporting at all times.
  • Must be able to produce clear reports suitable for management, HR, Legal, Internal Audit and external authorities.
