About GLO Marine

GLO Marine is an engineering-led vessel upgrade partner supporting international shipowners, operators, and shipyards on vessel upgrades — retrofit, conversion, and offshore projects. We take on work across engineering disciplines and stay accountable for it end-to-end, from concept through to commissioning on board.

We are expanding into new markets and new kinds of work, including electrical retrofit and integration, vessel decarbonisation, modular products for oil and gas, and process skids. This development is further strengthened by the GLO Technology Centre in Galați, bringing engineering, fabrication, electrical integration, and system pre-assembly under one roof. This role exists because of that growth.

About the role

If you have an engineering degree but would rather sit where the technical and the commercial meet than at a drawing board, this is that role.

We are looking for a Business Development Coordinator to join our team in Bucharest. You will work in business development, on opportunities long before they become projects. That means researching markets and clients, working out what a request actually involves technically, helping turn an unfamiliar enquiry into something the company can answer, and keeping the whole picture organised so nothing gets lost between meetings.

A good part of the work concerns scopes we have not delivered before. Those need someone who can read a specification, ask engineering the right questions, help find the specialist partner who fills the gap, and keep it all moving to a deadline. That is why we are looking for a technical background rather than a purely commercial one. You will report directly to the Director of Marketing & Business Development and work alongside engineering, estimating, operations, and commercial. It is not a sales job — you will not carry a target or chase orders.

Responsibilities

  • Research target clients, fleets, and markets - who they are, what they operate, and what they are likely to need.
  • Qualify new opportunities and prepare the summary on which we decide whether to pursue them.
  • Work out the technical scope behind an enquiry - what the job actually involves, and what it would take to deliver.
  • Coordinate small cross-functional teams on unfamiliar opportunities: kick-off, open questions, and chasing information to closure.
  • Find and shortlist specialist partners and suppliers where we need capability we don't hold in-house, and support the checks on them.
  • Attend client and partner meetings, write the record, and own the follow-up.
  • Keep the business development portfolio current — initiatives, contacts, actions, and decisions.
  • Track competitors, regulation, and technology in our growth areas, and turn them into short, usable intelligence.
  • Prepare meetings, organise visits, and support trade shows and conferences end-to-end.

Requirements

  • A technical degree from a polytechnic or technical university (electrical, mechanical, marine or naval, industrial, offshore, or energy engineering).
  • 0–2 years' experience. Recent graduates are welcome; internships, placements, or shipyard practice count.
  • Able to read drawings, single-line diagrams, and specifications - or to pick it up quickly.
  • Mandatory Fluent English, spoken and written (C1+). Much of the job is writing things other people rely on, so it has to be accurate and readable.
  • Organised and self-directed. You will hold several threads at once and chase people for answers without being reminded.
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings, yard and site visits, and industry events (roughly 10–20% of your time).

Nice to have

  • Exposure to business development, technical sales, or market research, including internships or university projects.
  • Experience researching potential clients, identifying business opportunities, or preparing commercial proposals.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools, stakeholder coordination, or the maritime and energy sectors.
  • A further language beyond Romanian and English.

Who this suits

Someone technically curious who would rather understand how something works than talk around it, comfortable saying “I don't know yet, I'll find out”, and careful about the difference between a fact and an assumption. A lot of this work concerns things the company has not done before, so an appetite for unfamiliar problems matters more than polish.

What we offer

  • Direct exposure to international shipowners, operators, and partners from early on.
  • Breadth across engineering, estimating, operations, and commercial that is hard to get this early in a career.
  • Real responsibility on live opportunities, working directly with the director who runs the function.
  • Travel to client sites, shipyards, and industry events across Europe and beyond.
  • Competitive salary package, meal vouchers, private health insurance, and hybrid work options.
