We are seeking a top-tier Lead UX/UI Designer to join our Digital Marketing & Communications team. This high-impact individual contributor role balances enterprise design system stewardship with hands-on execution of high-visibility web projects and digital journeys.

In this role, you will lead efforts to modernize the DaVita.com web ecosystem. You will architect, scale, and govern our multi-brand design system while actively leading design execution for major website initiatives—including homepage modernizations, global navigation overhauls, interactive clinical/patient tools, and persona-driven audience journeys. You will partner seamlessly with product managers, front-end engineers, content strategists, and clinical stakeholders to create accessible, intuitive, and trustworthy digital experiences that deliver measurable business and patient outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Hands-On UX/UI Project Execution & Journey Design (Project Work)

  • Lead Priority Web Initiatives: Own and execute end-to-end UX/UI design for major digital projects across DaVita.com, including homepage redesigns, site reskins, global navigation, campaign hubs, and interactive digital touchpoints.
  • Persona-Driven Guided Journeys: Evolve digital experiences from static landing pages into cohesive, persona-based customer journeys (patients, caregivers, physicians, career seekers) optimized for high-value next best actions.
  • End-to-End Craft & Prototyping: Create user flows, journey maps, wireframes, high-fidelity responsive layouts, and interactive prototypes that articulate micro-interactions, responsive breakpoints, and edge cases.
  • Development Handoff & QA: Deliver comprehensive UI specs, asset exports, and interaction annotations. Partner closely with front-end engineers and CMS authors throughout sprint cycles to build, QA, and launch new/updated web pages with high visual fidelity.
  • Data-Informed Optimization: Leverage web analytics, heatmaps, SEO/AI visibility metrics, and user feedback to test, iterate, and continuously improve journey conversion rates, engagement depth, and bounce rates.

Design System Architecture, Governance & Scalability

  • Design System Stewardship: Own and evolve our comprehensive web design system in Figma—including component libraries, tokens, variables, autolayout templates, and interaction patterns.
  • Adoption & Governance: Drive >95% design system adoption across digital marketing squads, internal product teams, and external agency partners by establishing clear contribution guidelines, version control, and component reviews.
  • Engineering Alignment: Collaborate with front-end developers to maintain parity between Figma components and code libraries (CSS/React, design token pipelines, and headless CMS components).
  • Accessibility (WCAG Compliance): Champion accessibility as a non-negotiable standard, ensuring all design system patterns, color palettes, focus states, and components meet WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA+ standards.
  • CMS Model & Documentation: Partner with content and technical teams to stand up sustainable CMS component governance, publishing living design system documentation, usage guidelines, and editorial playbooks.

Strategic Cross-Functional Leadership & Mentorship

  • Craft Leadership & Mentorship: Provide informal craft mentorship, design critiques, and best-practice coaching to peer UX/UI designers, elevating the team’s overall product thinking and execution quality.
  • Roadmap & Milestone Planning: Inform and co-author the multi-quarter UX/UI modernization roadmap in partnership with digital leadership, aligning design deliverables to quarterly milestones and business KPIs.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Translate complex clinical workflows, business objectives, and healthcare regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA compliance) into clear, elegant digital solutions for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Agency & Vendor Enablement: Serve as the design governance lead for external agency partners, ensuring external creative and campaign work ladders up to site design standards.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Support adjacent digital initiatives, exploratory concepts, and special Village projects as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years of professional UX/UI and product design experience delivering complex, responsive web applications or enterprise digital platforms.
  • Influence & Leadership: Demonstrated track record of independently leading large project workstreams and influencing technical/product strategy.
  • Dual Craft Expertise: Proven capability to seamlessly balance scalable Design System infrastructure (tokens, component libraries, documentation) with hands-on feature design & project execution.
  • Expert Figma Proficiency: Mastery of advanced Figma features (variables, design tokens, component variants, auto-layout, interactive prototyping, and library management).
  • Technical Literacy: Strong understanding of front-end web technologies (HTML5, modern CSS/SCSS, component architecture, headless CMS workflows) to ensure efficient developer collaboration.
  • Accessibility Knowledge: Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards, ARIA specifications, color contrast requirements, and inclusive design principles.
  • Communication & Influence: Outstanding presentation, stakeholder management, and storytelling skills; ability to articulate design rationale and trade-offs to cross-functional leaders.
  • Portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX project case studies (research to shipped UI), responsive web craftsmanship, and design system component architectures.

Preference For:

  • Experience in healthcare, health tech, life sciences, or other regulated industries (familiarity with HIPAA and patient privacy considerations).
  • Experience with design token translation tools and component documentation platforms (Tokens Studio, Style Dictionary, Storybook, Zeroheight).
  • Experience integrating qualitative usability testing and quantitative web analytics (Google Analytics 4, Hotjar, Contentsquare) into UX optimization.
  • Background working in Agile / Scrum digital product environments.
