Location: Mogadishu, Somalia (National) / Remote (International)

2. Job Summary

The successful candidate will deliver undergraduate teaching in renewable energy, green technologies, energy systems, energy efficiency and sustainable development.

The lecturer should combine strong theoretical knowledge with practical and applied learning, helping students understand the design, operation and application of renewable energy technologies and sustainable energy systems. The lecturer should also promote innovation, energy efficiency, environmental responsibility and the transition toward low-carbon and resilient energy systems.

3. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, practical demonstrations and other academic activities in assigned green energy and technology subjects.
  • Teach relevant areas such as solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, biomass, bioenergy, geothermal energy and other renewable energy technologies.
  • Teach renewable energy systems, energy conversion, energy storage, energy efficiency, sustainable engineering and low-carbon technologies.
  • Introduce students to solar photovoltaic systems, solar thermal technologies, battery storage, mini-grids, off-grid systems and other appropriate renewable energy applications.
  • Cover relevant areas of electrical energy systems, power generation, energy distribution and renewable-energy integration where applicable.
  • Develop teaching materials, laboratory exercises, technical assignments, case studies and practical projects aligned with programme learning outcomes.
  • Use appropriate engineering software, energy-modelling tools, data-analysis methods and technical equipment to strengthen practical learning where resources permit.
  • Guide students in assessing renewable energy resources, energy demand, system performance, efficiency and technical feasibility.
  • Teach principles of energy management, sustainable infrastructure, energy access and appropriate technology for developing and underserved communities.
  • Introduce students to emerging green technologies, smart energy systems, electric mobility, energy storage and low-carbon innovations where relevant.
  • Set and assess examinations, assignments, laboratory work, technical reports, presentations and engineering projects and provide constructive feedback.
  • Supervise undergraduate research projects, capstone projects, practical installations and internships where assigned.
  • Promote occupational health and safety, environmental responsibility, energy efficiency and ethical engineering practice.
  • Encourage innovation, entrepreneurship and practical solutions to energy-access and sustainability challenges.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment and academic records and submit reports within required timelines.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, research, quality assurance, academic events and relevant engagement with energy companies, government institutions, NGOs and development organisations.

4. Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A minimum Master's degree in Renewable Energy, Renewable Energy Engineering, Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Energy, Green Technology or a closely related discipline from a recognised university.
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, energy technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering or a closely related field.
  • A PhD in a relevant discipline is an advantage.
  • Relevant university or higher education teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Professional or industry experience in renewable energy, energy systems, power generation, energy efficiency or green technology is an advantage.
  • Practical experience with solar PV, mini-grids, energy storage, wind, biomass or other renewable energy technologies is desirable.
  • Experience with energy modelling, system design, technical analysis, simulation or relevant engineering software is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of energy policy, energy access, sustainability and environmental management is desirable.
  • Experience working with energy companies, government institutions, NGOs, development organisations or research institutions is an advantage.
