Role Description The Member of the Board of Trustees is a volunteer position with responsibilities carried out primarily in a remote capacity. In this role, the trustee contributes to strategic direction, governance, and oversight of STEM Garage Africa’s programs and initiatives. Day-to-day activities may include participating in virtual board and committee meetings, reviewing organizational plans and policies, and providing guidance on funding, partnerships, and impact measurement. Trustees are expected to support advocacy efforts, leverage their networks to advance STEM Garage Africa’s mission, and collaborate with other board members and leadership to ensure strong governance and sustainable growth.

Qualifications

• Experience in governance, leadership, or strategic planning for non-profit, social enterprise, or mission-driven organizations.
• Background or strong interest in STEM education, innovation ecosystems, or socio-economic development in African contexts.
• Skills in fundraising, partnership development, or stakeholder engagement, including the ability to represent the organization to external partners.
• Financial literacy and familiarity with oversight of budgets, compliance, and organizational risk management.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse, remote teams across multiple regions.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and ethical decision-making, aligned with STEM Garage Africa’s mission and values.
• Prior board or advisory experience is beneficial but not required; candidates with relevant professional or community leadership experience are encouraged to apply.
