Role Description The Nigerian Language Contributor Call is a remote volunteer opportunity for individuals who are fluent in one or more Nigerian languages and comfortable working in English. Contributors will support AI development by participating in language-focused tasks such as data collection, transcription, annotation, translation, evaluation of AI outputs, and quality review. Day-to-day activities may include labeling text or audio data, providing corrections and feedback on machine-generated content, rating the quality and safety of AI responses, and offering cultural and linguistic context to improve model performance. Volunteers work flexibly, using Leangoogs AI’s online tools and structured workflows to complete assigned tasks and contribute to language resources that help make AI systems more inclusive, accurate, and representative of Nigerian communities.
Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in at least one Nigerian language (e.g., Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and other Nigerian languages) and good command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to perform language tasks such as transcription, translation, annotation, and text editing with attention to linguistic detail and cultural nuance.
• Comfort with using web-based tools and digital platforms; ability to follow task guidelines and apply feedback consistently.
• Careful attention to detail, strong critical thinking skills, and the ability to review, evaluate, and provide clear feedback on AI-generated content.
• Interest in AI, language technology, and improving digital experiences for Nigerian and Global South communities.
• Reliable internet access, ability to work remotely and independently, and willingness to collaborate with a distributed team.
• Background in linguistics, translation, language studies, or related fields is a plus but not required.
• Previous experience in data labeling, research assistance, or content review is beneficial but not mandatory.
