Remote · U.S. Commercial & Behavioral Health Renovation · Approx. 6-Week Initial Engagement · Potential for Further Projects
Across Clocks is hiring a senior architectural designer with formal architectural education and demonstrated experience producing construction documents for U.S. commercial projects.
You will support a U.S.-based architecture practice on a behavioral health facility renovation and addition in North Carolina. Working from the lead architect’s sketches, design direction and existing Revit information, you will develop coordinated architectural drawings, building sections and practical construction details.
The role requires someone who understands how commercial buildings are put together and can independently develop assigned documentation under the lead architect’s direction and review.
Requirements
- Excellent spoken and written English is required. Candidates must be able to communicate clearly and be easily understood in professional conversations with a U.S.-based team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and strong practical architectural knowledge, including hands-on experience detailing doors, windows, walls, ceilings, finishes and building assemblies.
- Demonstrated experience preparing architectural construction-document sets for U.S. commercial projects, with a strong understanding of U.S. drawing conventions, documentation standards and drawing-set organization.
- Professional proficiency in both Revit and AutoCAD, including architectural modeling, construction detailing, annotations, schedules, sheet preparation and drawing coordination.
- Ability to independently develop building sections, wall sections and construction details from an architect’s sketches and design instructions, identify missing information and technical issues, and incorporate review comments without requiring step-by-step production instructions.
- Experience documenting commercial building renovations, alterations or additions, including existing conditions, proposed work and interfaces between building elements.
- Senior-level architectural production experience, typically around 5–10 years, preparing coordinated working drawings and construction details.
- Working familiarity with U.S. building codes and architectural documentation practices, including recognizing issues requiring review or a decision by the responsible licensed architect.
- Accuracy, responsiveness and the ability to deliver reliable documentation within a compressed project schedule.
- Availability for approximately 30 hours per week during the first four weeks, followed by approximately 10 hours per week for two weeks of revisions.
- Availability to work agreed project hours within the team’s U.S. Eastern Time working window, approximately 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
What You Will Do
- Develop architectural construction documents for a commercial renovation involving multiple existing building sections and an addition.
- Translate the lead architect’s sketches, written instructions and design direction into coordinated working drawings.
- Prepare and update floor plans, building sections, wall sections, reflected ceiling plans, architectural details and relevant schedules.
- Develop details showing materials, finishes, building assemblies, connections and architectural interfaces.
- Document office areas, treatment rooms, pharmacy spaces and associated furniture, equipment and hardware requirements.
- Coordinate architectural drawings with approved structural and MEP information, identifying discrepancies and raising focused questions for review.
- Incorporate project-specific behavioral health and anti-ligature requirements under the lead architect’s guidance.
- Help assemble a complete architectural drawing package for the lead architect’s review before submission.
- Revise drawings in response to architectural review, consultant coordination and comments from the reviewing authorities.
Preferred Experience
- Previous architectural construction-documentation experience with healthcare, institutional or behavioral health facilities.
- Experience with complex commercial renovations involving multiple existing building sections and new additions.
- Experience coordinating architectural documentation with structural and MEP consultants.
- Previous experience preparing architectural construction documents for projects in North Carolina.
- Familiarity with anti-ligature design, specialized door hardware and controlled-access environments.
