About Us
TekMinds is an engineering and management consulting firm that provides support to US clients across various sectors and functional areas. Our focus is on working with clients in the renewable energy and industrial products verticals, where we support the design and implementation of commercial, industrial and community-scale renewable projects. Our services include support across various tasks in the key stages of pre-engineering, design, financial analysis, growth strategy, and asset management.
Our worldwide customer base is serviced from offices in Washington D.C, Karachi, and Lahore.
What we’re looking for:
Our client, a leading renewable energy firm in the US, is seeking to hire a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its engineering team. You will serve as the Electrical Owner’s Engineer for photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage (ESS) projects, reviewing and engineering electrical designs from development through commissioning with a focus on satisfying applicable code, utility, safety, and performance requirements. Successful candidates will bring prior owner’s engineering or design review experience, hands-on electrical study experience, and excellent communication skills across all levels.
This is a hybrid position based out of our office in Karachi but working exclusively with and for a firm in the US.
What you’ll do:
- Serve as Electrical Owner’s Engineer on commercial, industrial, and utility-scale PV and ESS projects, independently executing and reviewing electrical engineering work from development through design, construction, commissioning, and asset management.
- Specify and review shop drawings, equipment data, single-line and three-line diagrams, site layouts, grounding studies, thermal ampacity studies, and related deliverables for compliance, constructability, and project requirements.
- Perform or manage defined scopes for electrical studies, including protection coordination, power flow, arc flash, step/touch grounding, PSCAD, PSSE, or equivalent analyses, with appropriate review by more experienced engineers.
- Support project needs including utility coordination, RFI responses, equipment due diligence, factory test review, medium-voltage equipment test review, and relay test report review, and provide mitigation plans for project issues.
- Manage defined third-party engineering scopes and coordinate with EOE, EEOR, EPC, utility, commissioning, and equipment-vendor stakeholders.
- Support the Grid Integration engineering team with interconnection and utility coordination.
- Use engineering judgment and analytical tools to evaluate failure modes, design deviations, system performance, and mitigation options; communicate severity clearly and escalate concerns promptly.
- Document assumptions, decisions, risks, and mitigations for cross-functional stakeholders, and collaborate with Project Engineering, Design, Civil, Commissioning, Supply Chain, Deployment, contractors, utilities, and external engineers.
Qualifications / Experience :
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, including 2+ years of PV experience
- AutoCAD proficiency; ETAP, SKM, or AmpCalc modeling experience; familiarity with AcSELerator and RDB generation
- Strong working knowledge of PV plant electrical design, medium-voltage distribution and collection systems, grounding and bonding, protection and coordination, relaying, equipment ratings, and applicable IEEE, NEC, NESC, and OSHA standards
- Knowledge of construction means and methods
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly to project and functional stakeholders, ask targeted questions to clarify objectives and expected outcomes, and translate ambiguous direction into clear assumptions, decisions, and deliverables
- PSSE, Aspen, or PSCAD modeling experience a plus
Competencies :
- Ability to work as part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and ethical conduct
- Communication and Collaboration: Communicates technical information clearly to project and functional stakeholders; collaborates effectively within project teams and contributes to team objectives
- Technical Knowledge and Problem Solving: Applies electrical fundamentals, applicable codes, equipment knowledge, and specialty software to independently execute complex project work
- Attention to Detail and Quality: Produces accurate calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reviews; performs thorough self-checks and uses peer review appropriately
- Time Management and Accountability: Manages multiple projects and consistently delivers accurate work within established deadlines
- Judgment and Professional Growth: Handles ambiguity within their area of responsibility, proposes reasonable assumptions and solutions, seeks guidance when needed, and escalates issues with sufficient context for an effective decision
