News24, recently rebranded from Sky News Australia, is owned by News Corp Australia. Are you ready to be part of Australia’s only 24/7 News Channel?
At News24, we are committed to delivering fast, accurate, and compelling coverage of the events that matter most to our audience. Based in our dynamic Surry Hills newsroom, our team operates at the cutting edge of breaking news, Australian politics, and global affairs.
We are seeking a News Exchange Operator to join our News Exchange department. Reporting to the News Exchange Manager, you will provide operational and technical support across the acquisition, management, recording, and distribution of live and recorded media for News24 and News Corp platforms. This role is central to ensuring news, sport, and special event content is received, monitored, and delivered accurately and efficiently to support our editorial, production, and broadcast operations.
About the role:
- Coordinate the acquisition and exchange of live and recorded content with domestic and international broadcasters, news agencies, production partners, and external organisations.
- Acquire, distribute, record, ingest, and manage live and pre-recorded media from multiple contribution sources to meet operational and editorial requirements.
- Plan and coordinate the recording of live sporting events, ensuring record schedules and broadcast feeds are accurate and available to News teams.
- Coordinate transmission and program scheduling requirements across all broadcast channels to support the Schedule Coordinator.
- Maintain accurate and consistent asset naming, labelling, and metadata, while archiving media assets in accordance with organisational standards and policies.
- Perform basic non-linear editing and media preparation as required.
- Train and mentor new team members and contribute to the continuous improvement of workflows, documentation, and standard operating procedures.
Who are you?
- You have experience working within television, media, broadcast, technical operations, or newsroom environments, with an optional but desirable qualification in Media, Communications, Broadcast Operations, or IT.
- You possess a working knowledge of live broadcast operations, contribution workflows, recording systems, media asset management, routing, transmission, and content distribution technologies.
- You have a strong understanding of media management processes, including ingest, metadata, quality control, and archiving.
- You have the technical aptitude to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational issues in a live broadcast environment.
- You are highly computer literate and confident working across multiple broadcasts, media management, and operational software platforms.
- You demonstrate the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain exceptional attention to detail, and work effectively under pressure to meet critical deadlines.
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across editorial, production, engineering, and external partners.
- You are available to work a rotating 24-hour, 7-day roster, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and major news events.
