1. About the Response
Help families affected by flooding connect to cash assistance, one phone call at a time.
Flooding in early November damaged homes, cut power and water, and closed roads across communities in the Navajo Nation. CORE is launching a remote response alongside partners on the ground, who are referring affected families for cash assistance.
We’re starting with 15 families, and we’re looking for three volunteers to be their main point of contact.
2. What You’ll Do
• Reach out to 5 assigned families referred by our partners.
• Collect their information to see if they qualify for beneficiary cash assistance.
• Follow up as needed and help families fill out the form.
• About two weeks later, reconnect with each family and ask them to complete a short survey about the support they received.
• Handle family information carefully, following CORE’s privacy and security training.
3. Who We’re Looking For
• Available about an hour a day over a weekend and into the following week, at times that work for families in New Mexico.
• Able to attend a live training with George, CORE’s Director of Humanitarian Response.
• Willing to complete CORE’s required internet privacy and security trainings (about one hour) before outreach starts.
• Calm, patient and respectful with people in crisis.
• A smartphone with WhatsApp and reliable internet.
4. How It Works
1. Share your interest
Confirm your availability and write a few sentences about a time you supported someone in crisis. Volunteers are hand-selected.
2. Complete your trainings
Privacy and security (about 1 hour) plus the live training with George.
3. Get set up
Activate your CORE email and join the team WhatsApp group, where most of our communication happens.
4. Start outreach
Call through a Verizon OneTalk number we provide, so you never share your personal number.
5. Follow up
Check back with your families for the survey about two weeks later.
Short time, real impact.
Your calls are how families get connected to the support they need.
