Partner Solutions Architect, Cross-Border & Tax

Shopify's Product Partnerships team makes sure merchants can sell in their home markets and across borders and stay compliant wherever they sell. Cross-border commerce is intensely local. Every market has its own duty and import rules, its own tax regimes, its own filing and fiscal requirements, and its own expectations about what a buyer sees at checkout. We build and manage the partnerships that give merchants that coverage — merchant-of-record providers, duties and landed-cost engines, and the tax calculation, filing, remittance, and compliance platforms merchants run on.

We are seeking a driven, self-initiated, and technically-skilled Solutions Architect to join our team. In this role, you will lead the onboarding of high-value cross-border commerce partners (Managed Markets / Merchant-of-Record and duties/landed-cost providers), tax partners (tax calculation, filing/remittance, and compliance/fiscalization) to our technology platform. You will play a critical role in breaking down technical barriers, enabling partners to leverage our innovative platforms, and accelerating their business growth. This position combines technical consulting and partner and project management responsibilities.

You advise on complex integrations, provide solutions for faster build times, and ensure long-term success on the platforms. Due to the complexity of these builds, partners require deep Shopify and industry landscape knowledge and strong stakeholder management (business/partnerships and product/engineering).

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a complex portfolio of partners in a dedicated model and work with partners’ development, partnerships, and operations/project management teams to help design solutions for them on our platform. Whilst you will not necessarily be building or implementing the solution, you will however be acting as a trusted advisor during their build

• Work along an established timeline to achieve successful adoption and activation of Shopify products

• Collaborate with adjacent teams within Shopify including Product, Engineering, Solution Engineering, Partnerships, Risk & Legal, and more

• Share learnings and best practices with the rest of the cross-functional team (especially product and engineering), constantly iterating and improving the partner experience and internal processes. This includes mentorship, leading by example, taking ownership over issues, and helping to improve operations to deliver a great partner experience

• Up to 20% of time may be traveling for in-person meetings and may include international travel

Qualifications

• High learning aptitude

• You build with AI–hands-on experience using, building, and shipping with AI tools and models

• Ecommerce and platform fundamentals; You understand how a commerce platform and its ecosystem actually work. That could come from the Shopify ecosystem, a top-tier implementation agency, another commerce or SaaS platform's partner ecosystem, or enterprise merchant-side integration and implementation work.

• Strong fundamentals in APIs (REST and GraphQL) and integration patterns

• Solutions mindset supporting our largest and most complex partners like to push the boundaries of commerce and shipping

• Strong time management and prioritization skills to support a wide portfolio of partners with multiple requests coming through at the same time, and the ability to re-prioritise on an ongoing basis

• Great troubleshooting & analytical skills combined with the desire and resourcefulness to tackle challenges head-on

• Agile project management mindset. This is not a true project management role, but does share some skills with it, especially managing expectations and prioritizing deliverables

Nice to have

• Previously built out and advised on technical solutions & integrations for cross border commerce, tax and duties products.

• Deep understanding of technical strategy as it relates to operating and growing a commerce and cross border business including shipping, logistics, payments, duties, compliance.

• Experience in complex or emerging markets

• Experience in a partner, ISV, or platform ecosystem role, or in a startup environment with a new go-to-market product.

• Running your own business or building your own apps or websites on Shopify.

• Familiarity with version control systems and development environments (git/GitHub is a plus).

• Development experience (HTML, CSS, Liquid, Ruby, JavaScript, etc.).
