Show job description

Know payroll. Change how the work gets done.

It’s three days before payroll closes. The absence report doesn’t match the hours. A manager still hasn’t approved the overtime. The run goes through, and next week a correction lands on your desk.

If you’ve run payroll, you know this month. Experienced payroll people fill those gaps manually, every single month. We think there’s a better way. And we think the people who’ve lived it should help build it.

At Simployer, we simplify work-life for employers through modern HR tech. We’re building an AI-first company, and we’ve started a new initiative with a small team of product people and engineers. They know AI. They know the Nordic HR market. Now they need someone who’s run payroll.

We’re looking for someone who gets excited by questions like:

  • What if AI took the slow, risky and repetitive parts of payroll off people’s plates?

  • Where should AI help, and where does it need experienced judgement?

  • What would payroll tools look like if payroll people helped design them from day one?

As our Payroll Transformation Specialist, you’ll be the first payroll professional on the team. You’ll leave the monthly run behind and bring everything you’ve learned from it into building something new.

Your mission

Make sure what we build holds up in real payroll. You’ll bring your payroll judgement into everything the team does, from early ideas to how things work in practice. You’ll work closely with customers to understand how payroll really runs, find what’s slow, risky or repetitive, and help shape new ways of working where people stay in control. And you’ll turn real cases and edge cases into knowledge the whole team builds on. This is a new kind of role, and you’ll help define what it means at Simployer.

You'll thrive here if..

  • You’ve run Swedish or Norwegian payroll end to end yourself, including year-end and retroactive corrections, and you know where it breaks

  • You see how data, systems, approvals and people connect, from time reporting all the way to finance and the authorities

  • You’ve changed how payroll gets done, with a new routine, an automation or a smarter use of a system

  • You use AI tools for real, and you know where they help and where your judgement matters more

  • You speak payroll with payroll people, and can explain it plainly to engineers

  • You get energy from early-stage work and figuring things out as you go

What you bring:

We’re not big on long lists. A few things matter: at least two to three years of hands-on payroll experience in Sweden or Norway, fluent Swedish or Norwegian, and professional English. You’re based in Sweden or Norway. The role belongs to our Stockholm office, with some travel to customers and to Oslo. You don’t need to tick every box. If you know payroll inside out and you’re curious about what AI can do with it, we’d love to hear from you

Message from the hiring manager:

We bring deep experience in AI, engineering and the Nordic HR market. What we’re missing is someone who knows payroll from the inside, including the everyday friction that rarely shows up in a product specification.

That’s where you come in. Not to hand us requirements, but to challenge our assumptions, help decide which problems matter, and shape and test solutions with customers. Your judgment is central to that work. AI should extend it, not replace it.

What I enjoy most is building product teams people genuinely want to be part of. We appreciate a straightforward answer when it works, but thrive when a challenge calls for a novel approach.
