Procurement Assistant / Purchasing Assistant / Procurement Coordinator

Role Description The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Institute of Metal Forming, overseeing research, teaching, and institute development in alignment with TU Bergakademie Freiberg’s mission. This full-time remote role includes setting research priorities, guiding academic programs, and coordinating interdisciplinary projects in metal forming and related fields. The Director will supervise and support staff and research groups, manage budgets and resources, and foster collaborations with industry, academic partners, and funding agencies. Responsibilities also include representing the institute in national and international forums, ensuring high-quality publications and technology transfer, and promoting a safe, inclusive, and innovative work and study environment.

Qualifications

• Advanced academic qualifications (preferably PhD or equivalent) in materials science, mechanical engineering, metal forming, or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in leading research programs, developing academic curricula, and supervising teams in a scientific or technical environment.
• Strong background in forming technologies, such as forging, rolling, and numerical simulation of materials and processes.
• Demonstrated ability to secure research funding, manage budgets, and oversee complex projects and process chains.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to build partnerships with industry, academia, and public stakeholders.
• Experience in strategic planning, organizational development, and change management within an academic or research institute.
• Commitment to inclusive leadership, mentoring early-career researchers, and supporting a diverse and respectful workplace.
• Proficiency in English; additional language skills, including German, are an advantage.
