About Rackan Technologies

Rackan Technologies is a Lagos-based fintech building cross-border payments that help individuals and businesses move money between Africa and the rest of the world. Our promise is simple: money that goes further, with seamless payments and borderless possibilities. We operate a Nigerian entity and a registered money services business (MSB) in Canada. Today we serve businesses moving value out of Nigeria at scale, and we are launching products for both consumers and businesses: For individuals: a remittance app that makes sending money home from the UK, US and Canada to Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya fast, reliable and built for the people receiving the money. For businesses: multi-currency accounts to collect, hold and pay out in local currencies, major foreign currencies and stablecoins, so African businesses can pay suppliers and get paid globally. We are a small, ambitious team. The person in this role will shape how people and businesses experience Rackan's products.

About the role

We are hiring a mid-level Product Designer to own design across Flipjar. You will design Flipjar Business and the Flipjar admin portal from scratch, from research and information architecture through to final UI. Once the first version of Flipjar Personal, our consumer remittance app, is ready, you will own its design and ongoing improvements as well. You will be the only product designer on the team at the start, so you will run your own research, make design decisions and back them with evidence. This role is hands-on from day one: you will learn the business while designing and start shipping work early

Responsibilities

Research and discovery
Plan and run research with business customers, remittance senders and recipients, and our internal teams: interviews, usability tests, surveys, and review of support tickets and product data.

Turn findings into personas, empathy maps, journey maps and problem statements the whole team uses.

Design and delivery

Design end-to-end flows and high-fidelity UI for Flipjar Business: onboarding and KYB, multi-currency wallets and virtual accounts, collections, payouts, FX conversion, beneficiaries, transaction history, statements, and team roles and approvals.

Design the Flipjar admin portal: customer and transaction lookup, compliance review queues, case management, reconciliation, limits and pricing settings, and audit trails.

Design for the hard parts of moving money: verification, failed and delayed transactions, reversals, limits, and fees and exchange rates shown clearly.

Take over Flipjar Personal after handover and keep improving it using data and user feedback.

Design system and quality

Build the Flipjar design system in Figma from the ground up (tokens, components, patterns and documentation), shared across web, mobile and admin and consistent with the Rackan brand.

Write clear handoff specs, review builds with engineers and sign off on what ships, with accessibility and responsive design as standard.

Collaboration

Work daily with the Product Manager and engineers, and with compliance and operations so regulatory requirements are met without adding unnecessary friction.

Present design work and its reasoning to the founders and other stakeholders.

Expectations

This role is hands-on from the start, and you will be designing these products from a blank canvas. You will learn the business while designing, so we expect you to ramp up quickly and begin shipping work early. Over the course of the contract, we expect you to:

Learn Rackan's business, the Flipjar products, our payment partners and the regulatory context quickly, mostly by working on real problems.

Design, test and hand off the core Flipjar Business flows: onboarding, wallets, collections, payouts and FX.

Design the admin portal together with the operations and compliance teams.

Build the Flipjar design system in Figma and get engineering using it.

Run research alongside delivery, with regular usability testing and conversations with users and internal staff, and use what you learn to improve the designs.

Work with the Product Manager to set and update design priorities as the products grow

By the end of the 6-month contract

Flipjar Business live, with improvements driven by real usage data.

Flipjar Personal handed over from the agency and on a regular improvement cycle.

A documented design system covering web, mobile and admin.

Measurable improvements in agreed product metrics, such as onboarding completion, time to first transaction, and support tickets per transaction.

Strong performance in this role leads to a full-time Product Designer role.

Requirements

Must have

3 to 5 years of product design experience (UX and UI), with at least 2 years designing fintech, banking or payments products.

Excellent interaction and visual design, with close attention to detail.

Experience building or maintaining a design system in Figma.

A working understanding of fintech products: KYC and KYB, transaction states, limits, fees and FX, reconciliation, and compliance checks.

Able to work independently, set your own priorities, and explain and defend your design decisions.
