Location: Cape Town, South Africa. Hybrid working arrangement, with a minimum of three days per week in our office.

About Us

At Embelo, we're dedicated to helping founders of consulting businesses start and scale efficiently. Backed by our UK-based investors and clients, we deliver exceptional client services to a growing group of UK businesses, combining technical expertise, South African spirit and the latest in AI-powered services.

One of those businesses is UK based Inference Group, a fast-growing data and AI engineering company helping organisations unlock the potential of their data, embrace emerging technologies and deliver meaningful business transformation.

We're building something exciting, and we're looking for people who want to be part of shaping it through the early stages.

About the Role

We're looking for a technical AI-savvy, Project Manager who combines strong Agile delivery experience with solid technical understanding and excellent stakeholder management skills.

Based in Cape Town, you'll coordinate delivery across complex AI and technology transformation projects for our UK-based clients, working closely with multidisciplinary teams of AI Engineers, Developers and technical specialists.

You'll take ownership of Agile delivery, managing sprints, priorities, dependencies and risks while ensuring work remains aligned with agreed scope, quality standards and client commitments.

Beyond project delivery, you'll also play a role in strengthening our growing South African team, supporting collaboration, team coordination and a connected, positive culture.

What You'll Be Doing Includes to:

  • Own Agile delivery: Run sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews and retrospectives, keeping priorities and deliverables on track across UK projects.
  • Manage technical execution: Work closely with engineers and technical leads to understand requirements, dependencies, blockers and delivery risks.
  • Own scope and quality: Ensure tickets, acceptance criteria and deliverables align with the Statement of Work (SOW) and agreed technical standards.
  • Drive accountability: Track milestones, team capacity, progress and quality, challenging estimates and identifying scope creep early.
  • Manage stakeholders: Communicate project progress, risks and decisions clearly across technical teams, clients and leadership.
  • Support the wider team: Coordinate resource planning, leave schedules and project coverage.
  • Build our community: Help bring our South African team together through collaboration, knowledge sharing and team initiatives.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years' experience managing complex software, data, AI or technology projects.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Agile/Scrum, sprint management and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience working with UK or international clients, with confidence managing stakeholders and coordinating delivery across geographically distributed teams.
  • Solid technical understanding of software development, APIs, integrations, cloud platforms and the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with AI technologies, including LLMs, generative AI, agentic workflows or intelligent automation.
  • Experience managing technical teams, SOWs, delivery governance, risks and quality standards.
  • Strong stakeholder management, commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge technical assumptions.
  • A collaborative approach to leadership and a genuine interest in building strong, connected teams.
  • You don't need to be a software engineer, but you do need the technical credibility to lead experienced engineers and understand what they're delivering.

Working With Us

At Inference Group, we're a fast growing AI-engineering business built by people who are curious, collaborative and passionate about what they do.

You'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced specialists delivering exciting AI and data transformation initiatives, while also helping shape the way our South African team grows and works together.

We believe in giving people the trust, ownership and support to do meaningful work. We value different perspectives, encourage continuous learning and recognise that the best ideas come from teams where everyone has a voice.

We're ambitious about what we're building, but equally committed to creating a workplace where people feel valued, connected and able to grow.

If you're someone who enjoys delivering real great work, bringing people together and being part of a business that's still writing its next chapter, we'd love to hear from you.
