About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Quantitative Developer & Risk Model Specialist to lead the development, validation, and governance of transaction monitoring models within the Financial Crime Prevention / AML function of a major Nordic banking client.

In this role, you will serve as the technical lead within the Transaction Monitoring Unit (TMU). You will bridge high-level data science with regulatory compliance—owning model documentation, conducting quantitative reviews, and driving 2nd line validation assessments forward while balancing analytical rigor with practical execution constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model Governance & Ownership: Lead end-to-end model governance for transaction monitoring systems, ensuring alignment with internal risk frameworks, validation assessments, and 2nd line feedback.
  • Quantitative Validation & Testing: Conduct hands-on prototyping of analytical methodologies, statistical modeling, data lineage tracing, and outcome testing.
  • Technical & Model Documentation: Write comprehensive model design documentation, detailing statistical assumptions, operational limits, potential weak points, and model outcomes.
  • Analytics Enablement: Partner with the broader analytics team to establish, test, and implement standardized operating procedures (SOPs) for model tuning, calibration, and ongoing operational monitoring.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key technical contact across internal analytics teams, risk governance functions, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Requirements

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Education: Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Physics.
  • Model Risk Expertise: Extensive professional background in model risk management, model governance, and quantitative validation within complex enterprise/banking environments.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong background in data science, statistical modeling, and hands-on quantitative prototyping.
  • Technical Writing: Demonstrated track record of producing high-caliber technical and academic-style model documentation.
  • Communication: Excellent stakeholder management skills with an assertive, collaborative, and structured approach.
  • Language: Fluent in English.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications:

  • Direct experience in Financial Crime / AML, specifically transaction monitoring frameworks.
  • Experience with specialized transaction monitoring tools or vendors (e.g., Quantexa).
  • Prior hands-on experience as a 2nd line model validator or quantitative risk analyst.
