Program Area Description

Research in the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) area aims to ensure that teens and young adults (1) have access to high-quality, accurate, and inclusive sexual and reproductive health care and knowledge; (2) are able to engage in and plan for safe, consensual, healthy, and empowered sexual activity; and (3) can have wanted and healthy pregnancies and births. Additionally, we study how sexual and reproductive health is linked to child and family well-being.

Our dynamic, multi-disciplinary teams have expertise in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research; intervention development; measurement design; program evaluation; policy design; and technical assistance. Much of our research focuses on improving outcomes for communities with low incomes; young people with disabilities; and communities in under-resourced or rural areas, including Tribal communities.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works on multiple research and evaluation projects simultaneously as a quantitative task leader or analyst.
  • Works both independently and as part of a team to contribute to reports, briefs, and memos.
  • Identifies steps for data cleaning and manages analysis timelines.
  • Contributes to designing protocols for the collection of quantitative data.
  • Supports and contributes to data collection efforts, as needed.
  • Uses Stata or R to manage and manipulate datasets; includes variable creation, data cleaning and recoding, merging files, and monitoring data quality and missingness.
  • Analyzes data, with support and supervision, using descriptive and multivariate techniques, including frequencies, cross-tabulations, t-tests, ANOVAs, linear and logistic regression.
  • Draws conclusions from data and prepares statistical reports, summary tables, baseline equivalence analyses, and progress reports for funders and project teams.
  • Reviews and synthesizes research literature and policy documents; contributes original analytical perspectives on patterns of findings.
  • Writes up research results; contributes to proposals, journal manuscripts, and other research products.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to develop analytical plans and data management documentation.
  • Presents research findings to clients, sponsors, or other audiences in written and oral formats.
  • Supervises and provides guidance to research assistants; supports onboarding and quality review of their work.
  • Manages recurring project data tasks reliably, including tracking survey response rates and flagging data issues as they arise.
  • Works independently with a high degree of initiative; contributes to research design and collaborates with evaluation leads on analysis planning.
  • Assists with proposal development, including collecting needed information and managing deadlines.
  • Attends occasional in-person project activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (Public Health, Economics, Sociology, Public Policy, Research Methods, Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Family Studies, or related social science) required; or a bachelor’s degree plus 3–5 years of social science research experience and formal study of quantitative analysis methods.
  • Two or more years of demonstrated experience with quantitative research methods and statistical analysis, including longitudinal or survey data; experience supporting randomized controlled trials or experimental evaluation designs is a plus.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Stata or R required; experience running descriptive analyses, regression models, and impact analyses is essential. Familiarity with Qualtrics or similar survey platforms and comfort monitoring data quality and missingness are strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, including advanced proficiency in Excel (e.g., formulas, lookups, pivot tables).
  • Experience with data visualization (e.g., Excel graphs and figures, Power BI, Tableau, ggplot2, Shiny).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and task management skills; ability to manage recurring data responsibilities reliably across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong project management skills; ability to track deliverables, anticipate issues, and communicate proactively with project leads.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to both provide and take direction.
  • Demonstrated interest in research topics related to sexual and reproductive health.

Desired, but not required qualifications

  • Experience contributing to methodological designs and decision-making.
  • Experience with data collection (e.g., surveys, interviews) and data management, preferably in applied settings, including recruiting, tracking, or retaining research participants.
  • Experience contributing to research proposals or grant/contract deliverables.
  • Experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g., Dedoose, NVivo).
  • Experience with Python and/or SQL; experience with or interest in learning Git and GitHub.
  • Experience working with clients (e.g., state administrators, federal or philanthropic project officers).

While our work is largely remote, some project activities will require occasional in-person attendance.

Background Investigation
Jobs that involve interactions with children and positions that rely on high levels of trust to perform duties are subject to a background check at the time of hire, with roles being offered contingent upon results. We will always conduct interviews of qualified individuals prior to requesting a criminal background check and never inquire into an applicant's criminal history until interviews have been conducted and offer decisions are being made. Current employees may also be subject to future background checks depending on the nature of their duties. A criminal history will not automatically disqualify a candidate or current employee from employment; however, any convictions related to the responsibilities and requirements of the position may do so.
