Location: Remote within Vietnam
Working hours: 09:00 to 18:00 ICT, full-time
Engagement: Independent contractor
Compensation: USD 4,000 to 8,000 gross per month, before personal taxes
Team: Quantitative Research
Our client is a quantitative proprietary trading firm with eight years of experience across multiple markets and a background in high-frequency trading.
The team is applying its expertise in quantitative research and low-latency systems to real-time eSports forecasting. Its platform processes professional live match feeds for League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2, continuously updating outcome probabilities as games unfold.
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist or Quantitative Researcher to own the development and ongoing performance of predictive models for live eSports forecasting.
You will turn high-frequency game telemetry into predictive features, build probabilistic models, and design rigorous validation frameworks. Working closely with experienced engineers, you will bring research into production and improve model performance over time.
You will report to the CTO, with research priorities and methodology guided by the Head Quantitative Strategist. Previous eSports experience is welcome but not required.
- Design, build and improve machine learning models and statistical frameworks for real-time forecasting.
- Extract predictive signals from live telemetry, including player positions, economy, objectives, kills and item states.
- Translate complex game mechanics into structured modelling features.
- Evaluate predictive performance and probability calibration against appropriate historical benchmarks.
- Design backtesting and temporal validation frameworks that use only information available at each prediction time and prevent data leakage.
- Build probabilistic frameworks that produce consistent forecasts across round, game and match outcomes, score differences, aggregate statistics and player performance.
- Write clean, maintainable Python code and work with engineers to deploy models into production pipelines and microservices.
- Take ongoing ownership of model evaluation, performance monitoring and improvement.
- At least five years of professional experience in data science, quantitative research or statistical modelling, including ownership of complex modelling projects.
- Strong applied knowledge of probability and statistics, demonstrated through probabilistic modelling, calibration or comparable quantitative work.
- Advanced Python skills, with experience writing maintainable research and production code.
- Proven experience designing backtesting or temporal validation frameworks, preventing data leakage and selecting appropriate evaluation metrics.
- Ability to explain modelling decisions, assess trade-offs and distinguish robust findings from misleading results.
- Clear communication and the ability to work independently within a small, senior team.
- Experience in quantitative trading, market-making, forecasting or sports analytics, particularly where calibrated probabilities have commercial value.
- Experience modelling streaming data or continuously changing system states.
- Knowledge of competitive CS2, Dota 2 or League of Legends, including game mechanics and the competitive meta.
- Experience deriving related outcome probabilities within a consistent modelling framework.
- Familiarity with MLOps principles and tools such as MLflow or Airflow.
- Meaningful ownership of commercially important models.
- A short path from research to live production.
- Collaboration with experienced quantitative researchers and production engineers.
- Access to professional live telemetry and the compute, hardware and cloud resources needed for modelling.
- Increasing influence over modelling priorities and future research.
- Company-provided laptop and work equipment.
- Time off and medical leave, with specific entitlements detailed in the offer and company policy.
