About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Electricity Consumption Forecasting Specialist to develop, maintain, and improve electricity demand forecasting models for utility networks, energy suppliers, commercial portfolios, and large-scale infrastructure operations. This role focuses on analyzing historical consumption patterns, identifying demand drivers, forecasting short- and long-term electricity requirements, and translating analytical findings into practical planning recommendations.
The successful candidate will work with advanced statistical methods, time-series models, machine learning techniques, and energy data platforms to produce reliable consumption forecasts. This fully remote position requires strong quantitative skills, an understanding of electricity markets and consumption behavior, and the ability to communicate complex forecasting results to technical and commercial stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and maintenance of short-term, medium-term, and long-term electricity consumption forecasting models.
- Analyze historical electricity usage data across residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional customer segments.
- Evaluate consumption trends by geographic region, customer category, tariff structure, time of day, and seasonal period.
- Identify key demand drivers, including weather conditions, temperature variations, economic activity, occupancy patterns, industrial output, and calendar effects.
- Develop forecasting models using statistical analysis, time-series methods, regression techniques, and machine learning algorithms.
- Produce daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal, and annual electricity demand forecasts according to business requirements.
- Review forecast accuracy using appropriate performance indicators, including mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and root mean square error (RMSE).
- Investigate forecast deviations and identify the underlying causes of significant differences between predicted and actual consumption.
- Develop baseline consumption models and scenario analyses to support energy procurement, capacity planning, and demand management.
- Incorporate weather forecasts, historical climate information, customer growth, tariff changes, and economic indicators into demand projections.
- Analyze peak demand patterns and identify potential changes in consumption profiles across customer groups and service areas.
- Support electricity load forecasting for network planning, energy purchasing, and resource adequacy assessments.
- Develop dashboards and automated reporting tools to communicate forecast outputs, accuracy trends, assumptions, and uncertainty ranges.
- Validate incoming consumption datasets and investigate missing readings, abnormal usage records, meter data inconsistencies, and reporting anomalies.
- Collaborate remotely with energy analysts, utility planners, commercial teams, finance departments, and data engineering specialists.
- Assess the potential impact of distributed energy resources, rooftop solar generation, battery storage, electric vehicle adoption, and demand response programs on electricity consumption patterns.
- Conduct sensitivity analysis to evaluate the effect of alternative economic, weather, customer growth, and operational scenarios.
- Maintain model documentation, data dictionaries, forecasting assumptions, validation records, and version histories.
- Recommend improvements to forecasting methodologies, data pipelines, model governance, and analytical workflows.
- Present forecasting insights and technical recommendations to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in electricity demand forecasting, energy analytics, utility planning, or quantitative modeling.
- Strong understanding of electricity consumption patterns, load profiles, peak demand behavior, and energy sector fundamentals.
- Experience developing statistical forecasting models and time-series analytical methods.
- Knowledge of regression analysis, seasonal decomposition, trend analysis, and forecasting error measurement.
- Experience applying machine learning techniques to electricity consumption and demand prediction is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, forecasting, and model development.
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale consumption datasets.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with data visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Understanding of electricity metering data, interval consumption records, smart meters, and automated meter reading systems.
- Familiarity with weather data integration, economic indicators, customer segmentation, and energy demand drivers.
- Knowledge of forecasting approaches used in utility operations, electricity procurement, and energy market planning.
- Ability to develop scenario models and quantify forecast uncertainty.
- Experience evaluating model performance and implementing continuous improvements to forecasting accuracy.
- Understanding of data governance, model documentation, analytical quality controls, and information security.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical forecasts to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with geographically distributed teams.
- Relevant professional training or certifications in energy management, data science, forecasting, or quantitative analytics are an advantage.
- A fully remote, work-from-home opportunity based in the UAE.
- The opportunity to contribute to electricity demand planning and data-driven energy management.
- Exposure to advanced forecasting techniques, smart metering data, and energy analytics platforms.
- A collaborative environment involving engineering, data science, and energy market professionals.
- Opportunities for professional development in demand forecasting, predictive analytics, and energy systems.
Interested candidates should submit an updated CV highlighting their experience in electricity demand forecasting, statistical modeling, energy analytics, and relevant programming or reporting tools.
