Job Title: Senior Flood Risk Mapping Specialist

Location: United Arab Emirates (Remote)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: 100% Remote — Work From Home

Level: Senior

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Flood Risk Mapping Specialist to support flood hazard assessment, geospatial flood mapping, and risk analysis for urban areas, river basins, coastal regions, and critical infrastructure. The successful candidate will combine hydrological and hydraulic modeling, geographic information systems (GIS), and spatial data analysis to identify flood-prone areas and support effective flood mitigation and resilience planning. This fully remote position focuses on geospatial analysis, flood model interpretation, risk mapping, technical reporting, and virtual collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering and environmental teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and review flood hazard and flood risk maps using hydrological, hydraulic, topographic, and geospatial datasets.
  • Analyze flood extents, water depths, flow velocities, inundation durations, and return-period scenarios.
  • Integrate hydrological and hydraulic model outputs into GIS-based flood mapping workflows.
  • Evaluate riverine, pluvial, and coastal flood hazards, as applicable to project requirements.
  • Process digital elevation models, terrain data, satellite imagery, land-use information, and drainage network datasets.
  • Conduct spatial analysis to identify vulnerable communities, infrastructure, transport corridors, and critical facilities.
  • Support flood risk assessments under current and future climate conditions, including scenario-based rainfall and sea-level assessments where relevant.
  • Review model assumptions, input data quality, mapping accuracy, and uncertainty in flood hazard outputs.
  • Apply GIS and remote sensing techniques to improve flood exposure analysis and map presentation.
  • Prepare flood hazard maps, risk assessment reports, technical memoranda, and mitigation recommendations.
  • Collaborate remotely with hydrologists, hydraulic modelers, civil engineers, urban planners, and disaster risk management specialists.
  • Support quality assurance reviews and ensure mapping deliverables follow applicable project specifications and regulatory guidance.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geomatics, or a related discipline.
  • Significant professional experience in flood risk assessment, flood hazard mapping, or geospatial water resources analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of flood hydrology, hydraulic modeling, inundation mapping, and flood risk assessment methodologies.
  • Proficiency in GIS software, such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS, and spatial data processing workflows.
  • Experience with flood modeling tools such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MIKE FLOOD, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM, or equivalent platforms.
  • Familiarity with digital elevation models, LiDAR-derived terrain, remote sensing data, and hydrological datasets.
  • Understanding of flood frequency analysis, return periods, climate scenarios, and uncertainty assessment.
  • Ability to interpret model outputs and translate complex technical results into clear maps and actionable recommendations.
  • Experience with Python, R, or similar tools for geospatial automation and data processing is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of applicable flood risk management standards, planning guidance, and environmental assessment requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, technical writing, project coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with distributed multidisciplinary teams.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation based on qualifications, experience, and role responsibilities.
  • 100% remote work-from-home arrangement, with no routine office attendance required.
  • Opportunities to contribute to flood resilience, climate adaptation, and infrastructure risk management projects.
  • Professional development in geospatial technologies, hydraulic modeling, and advanced flood assessment methods.
  • A collaborative, results-oriented working environment focused on technical quality and sustainable risk reduction.
How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit an updated CV highlighting their flood risk mapping experience, GIS proficiency, hydraulic modeling projects, and relevant technical qualifications.
