Senior Health & Safety Specialist

Role Description The Senior Health & Safety Specialist is a part-time, remote role focused on designing, implementing, and overseeing health and safety practices that support a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for participants and team members. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing existing policies and procedures, identifying potential risks, and developing clear guidelines that address occupational health and environment, health, and safety considerations in virtual and in-person settings. The specialist will create and update safety training materials, advise on best practices to ensure workplace safety, and collaborate with leadership to embed health and safety standards into all offerings. Additional tasks may involve conducting remote audits, preparing reports on safety performance, and recommending improvements that align with applicable laws and regulations. This role involves regular communication with the team to address questions, support implementation, and promote a culture of continuous safety awareness.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in Health & Safety and Workplace Safety, with the ability to design and maintain practical safety protocols.
• Experience in Occupational Health and Environment Health and Safety (EHS), including risk assessment and compliance with relevant regulations.
• Proficiency in Safety Training, including developing accessible training materials and conducting remote training sessions.
• Strong analytical skills for evaluating safety data, identifying trends, and proposing evidence-based improvements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex safety information in clear, respectful language.
• Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in adult education, performance, wellness, or similar fields is an asset, particularly in inclusive and body-positive spaces.
• Relevant certification or degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, Environmental Health, or a related discipline preferred.
