Job Description

Do you enjoy turning financial information into clear business decisions, constructively challenging performance, and working closely with senior leaders?

At Ruukki, we deliver high-quality, steel-based building products designed to perform, and we expect the same from our people. We are ambitious and work hard, but just as importantly, our culture is built on trust, fairness and collaboration.

We are now looking for a Business Unit Controller to join Ruukki Construction’s Finance function. The preferred location for the role is Helsinki, Finland with a possibility to hybrid work. Also, other Ruukki office locations may be considered. The role reports to the CFO of Ruukki Construction.

About The Role

Building Envelopes is Ruukki Construction’s largest business unit, delivering building-component products for construction projects across the Nordic, Baltic and Central European markets. The business unit comprises five business areas, with factories in Finland, Sweden, Estonia and Poland.

As Business Unit Controller, you will be the key financial business partner to the Head of Building Envelopes and the wider business unit management team. You will help drive financial performance and profitable growth while ensuring high-quality planning, forecasting, reporting and business analysis.

By combining financial expertise with commercial and operational understanding, you will provide forward-looking insights, constructively challenge business performance, and support informed strategic and operational decisions. You will also help align the business unit’s priorities with the financial objectives, governance requirements and policies of Ruukki Construction and the wider SSAB Group.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the key financial business partner to the Head of Building Envelopes and the business unit management team, bringing a financial perspective to strategic and operational decisions.
  • Turn financial and commercial data into actionable insights by analysing performance against targets, budgets and forecasts, including sales, pricing, product mix, customer profitability, margins and key cost drivers.
  • Identify risks and opportunities and work with business leaders to define actions that improve profitability and business performance.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning across Building Envelopes, including scenario analysis and the continuous improvement of forecast accuracy.
  • Manage the business unit’s investment portfolio, evaluating major investments and business cases and following up on their financial outcomes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely management reporting and compliance with group requirements, financial policies, internal controls and applicable accounting standards.
  • Provide financial leadership across the organisation by contributing actively to the Ruukki Financial Leadership Team and Building Envelopes management team, strengthening financial ownership and advancing data-driven decision-making, standardisation, digitalisation and continuous improvement.

Role Requirements

If you enjoy combining hands-on financial analysis with commercial business partnering and influencing decisions across an international organisation, you could be the person we are looking for.

We believe you will succeed in this role if you have:

  • Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Bring solid experience in business control, financial accounting and management reporting, preferably from an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively, create clarity and guide stakeholders towards well-informed decisions.
  • Have proven experience working with senior management and building trusted relationships across functions, business areas and organisational levels.
  • Combine strong analytical and financial-modelling skills with sound commercial and operational understanding.
  • Can translate complex financial information into clear insights, recommendations and actions for different audiences.
  • Take ownership, make sound decisions and manage several priorities in a changing business environment.
  • Communicate and collaborate fluently in English. Other relevant languages are considered an advantage.
  • Ability to do regular business travelling to other Ruukki locations across Europe.
