Job Title: Senior Metabolomics Assay Specialist

Location: United Arab Emirates (Remote)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: 100% Remote — Work From Home

Level: Senior

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Metabolomics Assay Specialist to support the development, optimization, validation, and analytical interpretation of metabolomics assays for research, pharmaceutical development, biotechnology, and biomarker discovery programs. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise in metabolite profiling, analytical method development, mass spectrometry data review, assay performance evaluation, and quality documentation.

This fully remote position focuses on assay development strategy, analytical data analysis, method validation documentation, and scientific collaboration. The specialist will work closely with analytical chemists, biochemists, bioinformaticians, clinical research teams, and laboratory personnel to generate reliable, reproducible, and scientifically meaningful metabolomics data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimize, and evaluate metabolomics assays for targeted and untargeted metabolite analysis.
  • Support analytical strategies for metabolite profiling, biomarker discovery, metabolic pathway research, and pharmaceutical development.
  • Review analytical methods involving liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and other relevant analytical platforms.
  • Assess assay performance characteristics, including sensitivity, specificity, precision, accuracy, linearity, reproducibility, and analytical range, as applicable.
  • Review method development, verification, and validation protocols to ensure alignment with project objectives and applicable quality requirements.
  • Evaluate sample preparation strategies, extraction procedures, derivatization approaches, and analytical conditions documented by laboratory teams.
  • Analyze metabolomics datasets to identify relevant metabolites, assess signal quality, and evaluate analytical performance.
  • Review calibration curves, quality control samples, internal standard responses, carryover assessments, and batch acceptance criteria.
  • Support the identification and characterization of metabolites using accurate mass, fragmentation patterns, retention times, and reference standards.
  • Evaluate analytical variability, batch effects, matrix effects, and potential sources of bias in metabolomics studies.
  • Collaborate with bioinformatics and computational biology teams to integrate analytical results with statistical and biological interpretations.
  • Review experimental protocols, analytical reports, data processing workflows, and study documentation.
  • Support investigations into unexpected assay performance, analytical deviations, and inconsistent metabolite measurements.
  • Contribute to standard operating procedures, assay development reports, validation summaries, and technical documentation.
  • Monitor developments in metabolomics technologies, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, and relevant quality standards.
  • Support research projects involving metabolic pathway analysis, pharmacometabolomics, disease biomarkers, and drug response studies.
  • Coordinate with contract research organizations, external laboratories, and technology providers on analytical deliverables.
  • Recommend improvements to assay robustness, analytical workflows, data quality controls, and reporting procedures.
  • Maintain appropriate data integrity, traceability, confidentiality, and documentation practices throughout assigned projects.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Metabolomics, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • A PhD in Metabolomics, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field is advantageous for research-intensive positions.
  • Significant experience in metabolomics, analytical method development, mass spectrometry, bioanalytical chemistry, or biomarker research.
  • Strong understanding of targeted and untargeted metabolomics approaches.
  • Experience with LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, high-resolution mass spectrometry, or other relevant analytical platforms.
  • Knowledge of metabolite extraction, sample preparation, chromatographic separation, and analytical detection principles.
  • Experience evaluating assay validation or verification parameters and analytical quality controls.
  • Familiarity with calibration models, internal standards, matrix effects, detection limits, and quantification limits.
  • Ability to interpret mass spectrometry data, chromatograms, fragmentation spectra, and metabolite identification results.
  • Knowledge of metabolomics data processing, normalization, statistical analysis, and quality control approaches.
  • Familiarity with scientific software and data analysis tools used in metabolomics, such as vendor-specific platforms, R, Python, or relevant specialist applications.
  • Understanding of analytical documentation, laboratory quality systems, and data integrity principles.
  • Experience preparing scientific reports, technical summaries, validation documents, or research publications.
  • Strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting, and scientific problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a remote environment.
What We Offer
  • A fully remote, work-from-home arrangement.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
  • Opportunities to contribute to metabolomics research, biomarker discovery, and pharmaceutical development.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in analytical science, biotechnology, and computational biology.
  • Professional development and opportunities for career progression.
