Power the future with EPSA
At Energy Power Systems Australia (EPSA), our team members work together to design, deliver and support the energy solutions industries depend on.
From defence and data centres to mining operations, utilities and major infrastructure projects, the work we do keeps essential operations running.
As the Cat® engine dealer for Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, EPSA provides world-class power solutions backed by global innovation and local expertise.
Across engineering, operations, projects and support teams, every role plays a part in keeping industries moving and communities powered.
If you're looking to contribute to something bigger and help shape what’s next, this is an opportunity to do meaningful work with real impact.
About the role
As a Senior Project Controller, you will play a key role in strengthening the financial and commercial controls that support EPSA’s project portfolio.
Working within our Project Management Office, you’ll help establish accurate project structures, maintain reliable forecasts and ensure project teams have the financial information and controls required to make sound decisions.
This is a senior, hands-on role with a strong focus on project accounting, forecasting, accruals, revenue recognition, progress claims and complex commercial analysis. You’ll support projects across their full lifecycle, while acting as a trusted technical resource for project managers, controllers and operational stakeholders across Australia.
You will not have direct reports, but you will provide senior guidance, informal coaching and practical support across the wider project team
This role will be based in our Mulgrave HQ with hybrid working.
Key responsibilities include:
Establish and maintain project budgets, work breakdown structures, forecasts, accruals and cost-control information.
Prepare and maintain accurate project financial reporting, including budget tracking, revenue recognition and cost-performance analysis.
Coordinate progress claims, payment schedules, invoicing, variations and supporting commercial documentation.
Investigate complex project accounting issues, reconcile information across project and ERP systems, and support commercially sound outcomes.
Administer project controls and governance requirements across project opening, delivery, end-of-month and close-out activities.
Prepare dashboards and reporting covering project financials, schedule, risk and performance.
Support technical discount claims and associated compliance requirements to help protect project and business margins.
Develop and improve consistent project control processes, procedures and ways of working across the PMO.
Build productive relationships with project managers, branch managers, Finance, Commercial, Legal, Engineering and other operational stakeholders
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for someone who combines strong financial capability with practical project experience, analytical depth and a collaborative approach.
You’ll be comfortable working through incomplete or complex information, constructively challenging assumptions and engaging stakeholders across different functions and locations to obtain the information needed for accurate project reporting.
Required
Relevant experience in project controls, project finance, commercial administration or a closely related discipline.
Strong understanding of project accounting, including budgets, forecasts, accruals, revenue recognition and cost performance.
Experience supporting contract administration activities such as progress claims, invoices, payment schedules, variations or commercial records.
Strong analytical capability, with the ability to reconcile information and work through complex financial or commercial issues.
Experience using ERP, project cost-control or financial management systems.
Advanced Microsoft Office capability, particularly in working with project and financial information.
Strong stakeholder communication skills, with the resilience and persistence to obtain accurate information from busy, geographically dispersed teams.
Australian working rights.
Highly regarded
Experience within an EPC, infrastructure, construction, energy or similarly project-based environment.
Experience with cost-plus, provisional-sum or other administratively complex contract models.
Experience using Procore, M3 or comparable project cost-management and ERP platforms.
A relevant degree in finance, commerce, accounting, project management or another related discipline.
Project controls, PRINCE2, PMBOK or other relevant professional certification.
Experience developing project control procedures, process documentation or standard operating procedures.
Understanding of foreign-exchange hedging or technically complex commercial claims
