About the Role

BlueOcean Tech Services is recruiting experienced technical professionals to support an international AI technology client. You will work with a fast-moving product team building and scaling AI-powered software for professional users.

The product is already live and is preparing for significant expansion, so we're looking for people who can take ownership of their function, work independently and help maintain a high standard of quality and delivery as the product grows.

The Role

You will own quality for the whole product: what gets tested, how, what counts as a defect, and whether a release ships.

You will write the automation yourself. This is not a role for someone who plans tests and hands them to others.

What You’ll Do

• Build and maintain browser automation using Playwright or an equivalent tool, API test suites from an OpenAPI specification, and load tests.
• Test the product through its published API contract and running application. You will not have access to the backend source code.
• Write the test strategy: what is tested at each layer, what is deliberately not tested, and why.
• Design the severity scheme, run defect triage, and drive defects to closure.
• Turn production errors and traces into reproducible defects.
• Decide, with appropriate authority, whether a release is ready to ship.
• Help determine when and how the QA function should grow.

What You Must Have

• Hands-on experience writing test automation code that we can review.
• Experience testing systems you could not see inside, including black-box or contract testing.
• A record of having stopped a release, or of disagreeing with an engineer about whether something was a defect.
• Daily use of AI coding assistants, with a clear understanding of what you verify and what you would not trust them to do.
• Excellent written English. Most of our decisions are made in writing and asynchronously.
• Experience using Google Workspace and Jira.
• Experience working with a US or US-facing team.
• A commitment to at least 4 hours of overlap every working day with US Central Time (roughly 4 PM–9 PM WAT).
• Reliable backup power and a second internet connection. Please describe both specifically in your application.

Not a Fit

This role is not suitable for candidates whose experience is limited to:

• Manual testing only.
• Record-and-playback automation.
• Running test cases written by others without owning the testing strategy or automation.
