Senior Quantum Optics Engineer

SpeQtral islooking for a highly motivated Senior Quantum Optics Engineer to join our teamof quantum technology pioneers in Singapore. We are commercialisingquantum-secure communications to prepare the world for the quantum future,developing advanced solutions for both space-based and terrestrial networks.Our work spans quantum space systems, terrestrial quantum key distribution,entanglement technologies and high-security communications. As part of ourmission to transform the world’s networks, we are building scalable quantumcommunication capabilities that enable the secure delivery of encryption keysacross local, regional and global networks.

At SpeQtral,you will work directly with scientists and engineers to solve the practicalchallenges of quantum communication in terrestrial and space environments.

Qualification:

• PhD in Physics or Quantum Optics with 2 years of experience
• Substantial postdoctoral or industry experience in quantum optics, quantum photonics, quantum communications, photonics, laser systems or optical instrumentation
• Strong record of experimental research supported by high-quality publications, patents and/or conference presentations in a relevant field
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work from concept and modelling through prototyping, integration, testing and validation
• Strong technical judgement, mentoring capability and an interest in translating deep-tech research into deployable products

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and perform the design and development of quantum and optics hardware
• Work with a team of domain and technology experts implementing solutions based on state-of-the-art and/or cutting-edge R&D
• Effectively present technical content internally as well as to customers or partners
• Assist with creating commercial and research proposals to support work done at SpeQtral and with partners of SpeQtral
• Other related functions as assigned

Technical skills:

• Quantum optics: Experience with optical systems that operate in the single photon regime. Familiarity with measurements and analysis of quantum states, specifically for polarization and phase encoding, including laser sources and electro-optic modulators
• Examples: quantum state tomography, polarization entangled photon sources, weak coherent pulsed sources, single photon sources.
• Single-photon detectors (APDs/SPADs/SNSPDs): Hands-on experience with operation and characterisation of single photon detection systems, including quenching methods, optical coupling, detector-efficiency optimisation, timing-jitter measurement, dark-count and after-pulse analysis and optimisation, and readout electronics.
• Integrated quantum photonics: Strong understanding of integrated photonic platforms for quantum-state generation, manipulation and detection.
• Experience in Thin-film lithium niobate photonics; Experience designing, modelling or characterising thin-film lithium niobate photonic devices and circuits, including waveguides, electro-optic modulators, laser source and detectors, hybrid approaches and fibre-to-chip coupling.
• Free-space optical communications: Experience with transmitting photons over long distances through free space optical channels.
• Examples: LIDAR, gaussian beam propagation, optical communications.
• Quantum key distribution: Experience with quantum key distribution systems, free-space or fibre based.

Bonus technical skills – experience in any of the following topics is advantageous

• Optical design software (Zemax)
• Quantum key distribution software
• Electronics engineering
• Data analysis
• Quantum communication theory, e.g., QKD protocols
• Space-to-ground QKD
• Optical communications
• Control theory
