The ideal candidate will combine advanced radiographic expertise with strong patient-care skills, technical knowledge, clinical judgment, and team leadership. The role involves performing complex imaging examinations, optimizing imaging protocols, supervising radiography staff, ensuring equipment quality and safety, supporting clinical education, and contributing to continuous improvement across the medical imaging department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic imaging examinations in accordance with approved clinical protocols and departmental procedures.
  • Operate radiographic equipment safely and effectively to obtain diagnostically adequate images.
  • Conduct general radiography examinations, including chest, abdominal, skeletal, and other routine imaging procedures.
  • Perform specialized radiographic examinations within the individual's training, competency, and authorized scope of practice.
  • Support imaging services across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and other clinical settings.
  • Review imaging requests to confirm patient identity, examination details, clinical indications, and relevant safety requirements.
  • Verify patient identification using approved patient-safety procedures before every examination.
  • Confirm that the requested examination is appropriate and clarify discrepancies with the referring clinician or radiologist.
  • Assess patient condition, mobility, medical history, and ability to cooperate with the examination.
  • Explain imaging procedures clearly to patients and obtain appropriate cooperation and consent in accordance with institutional policy.
  • Provide compassionate support to anxious, distressed, pediatric, elderly, or clinically vulnerable patients.
  • Apply appropriate patient positioning, immobilization, and exposure techniques to achieve optimal image quality.
  • Select appropriate imaging parameters based on patient size, clinical indication, examination type, and departmental protocols.
  • Optimize exposure factors to obtain diagnostic images while minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Apply the principles of justification and optimization in medical imaging.
  • Follow radiation-protection requirements for patients, staff, visitors, and the wider clinical environment.
  • Apply appropriate shielding and protective measures where indicated by current protocols and applicable guidance.
  • Ensure pregnancy-screening procedures are followed where relevant to the examination and institutional policy.
  • Follow established protocols for imaging children and other patients requiring additional radiation-protection considerations.
  • Use personal dosimeters and radiation-monitoring equipment in accordance with departmental requirements.
  • Report radiation-safety concerns, unintended exposures, equipment faults, and other incidents through established channels.
  • Evaluate images for positioning, exposure, anatomical coverage, artifacts, and overall diagnostic adequacy.
  • Repeat examinations only when clinically justified and in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Identify image-quality issues and take appropriate corrective action within the radiographer's scope of practice.
  • Ensure images and examination details are accurately associated with the correct patient and study.
  • Review image completeness before transferring studies to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Ensure accurate examination coding, documentation, and image labeling.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records in the Radiology Information System (RIS), PACS, and electronic health records.
  • Coordinate with radiologists and other clinicians to clarify examination requirements and communicate relevant technical concerns.
  • Support radiologists by ensuring that images are complete, technically adequate, and available for interpretation.
  • Escalate urgent workflow issues and critical operational concerns according to departmental procedures.
  • Follow established protocols for emergency imaging and prioritize examinations according to clinical urgency.
  • Coordinate with emergency, intensive-care, surgical, and inpatient teams to facilitate time-sensitive imaging.
  • Perform portable radiography when required, ensuring appropriate infection prevention and radiation-protection measures.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures before, during, and after imaging examinations.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and accessories according to clinical requirements.
  • Apply appropriate precautions when imaging patients with suspected or confirmed infectious conditions.
  • Assist patients with safe transfers, positioning, and movement in collaboration with nursing and clinical staff.
  • Use appropriate manual-handling techniques to reduce the risk of patient and staff injury.
  • Monitor patients during examinations and respond appropriately to signs of distress or deterioration within the scope of training.
  • Follow emergency-response procedures when a patient experiences an acute clinical event.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks before clinical use and confirm that systems are functioning correctly.
