We recognize the importance of specialized healthcare services, diagnostic imaging, patient safety, and accurate clinical information in supporting effective medical assessment and treatment. Through disciplined procedures, appropriate equipment management, professional competency, and adherence to relevant healthcare standards, we aim to promote safe, efficient, and high-quality radiography services wherever healthcare operations are provided.
The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Radiographer to oversee diagnostic imaging activities, perform and supervise radiographic examinations, maintain image quality, and ensure compliance with established radiation safety and clinical procedures. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in diagnostic imaging, radiographic positioning, imaging equipment operation, patient care, image evaluation, quality assurance, radiation protection, and clinical documentation.
This role will focus on delivering accurate, high-quality diagnostic images while maintaining patient comfort, confidentiality, and safety throughout the imaging process. The Senior Radiographer will collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, medical physicists, biomedical engineers, healthcare administrators, and other clinical professionals to support effective diagnostic workflows and compliance with applicable United Arab Emirates healthcare regulations and radiation protection requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee daily radiography operations and ensure that diagnostic imaging services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved clinical procedures.
- Perform diagnostic imaging examinations within the authorized scope of practice, professional competency, and applicable licensing requirements.
- Review imaging requests and verify patient identification, examination details, clinical indications, and relevant documentation before procedures begin.
- Confirm that the requested examination is appropriate to the referral information and escalate unclear or inconsistent requests to the responsible clinician.
- Select appropriate imaging protocols and technical parameters according to examination requirements, patient characteristics, and established departmental procedures.
- Perform radiographic examinations using appropriate equipment and positioning techniques to obtain diagnostically useful images.
- Apply advanced knowledge of anatomy, positioning, exposure factors, image acquisition, and image quality optimization.
- Conduct examinations involving general radiography and other modalities for which the radiographer is appropriately trained, credentialed, and authorized.
- Operate digital radiography systems, computed radiography equipment, fluoroscopy systems, mobile X-ray units, and other applicable imaging technologies.
- Where appropriately qualified and authorized, support CT, MRI, mammography, or other specialized imaging services in accordance with modality-specific procedures.
- Evaluate image quality and technical adequacy before completing examinations, identifying positioning errors, artifacts, exposure issues, or incomplete anatomical coverage.
- Repeat images only when clinically justified and in accordance with radiation protection principles and departmental protocols.
- Optimize exposure parameters to obtain adequate diagnostic quality while minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure.
- Apply the ALARA principle—keeping radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable—during relevant imaging procedures.
- Ensure that imaging protocols reflect approved clinical guidance, patient-specific requirements, and current radiation protection practices.
- Assess patient condition, mobility, pain levels, communication needs, and relevant clinical risks before positioning or transferring patients.
- Explain imaging procedures clearly to patients, addressing questions and helping them understand the purpose and sequence of the examination.
- Obtain or verify informed consent where required by the procedure, facility policy, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy, comfort, and confidentiality throughout the imaging process.
- Adapt positioning and examination techniques for patients with limited mobility, injuries, disabilities, or other special requirements.
- Apply appropriate precautions when imaging pediatric, elderly, pregnant, critically ill, or otherwise vulnerable patients.
- Follow established pregnancy screening procedures where relevant and consult the responsible clinician when additional assessment is necessary.
- Use appropriate immobilization aids, positioning devices, and patient support equipment to improve safety and reduce motion-related image errors.
- Coordinate patient transfers and positioning with nurses, healthcare assistants, and other personnel when additional support is required.
- Monitor patients for discomfort, distress, or changes in condition during imaging procedures and escalate concerns promptly.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including hand hygiene, equipment cleaning, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
- Ensure that imaging rooms, examination tables, detectors, positioning aids, and other patient-contact equipment are cleaned and maintained according to approved protocols.
- Apply additional infection control precautions when required by patient condition, clinical assessment, or facility procedures.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records, examination details, technical parameters, and relevant procedural documentation.
- Verify that images are correctly associated with the appropriate patient, examination, anatomical region, and acquisition details.
- Review demographic information and image labels to reduce the risk of identification errors.
- Ensure that completed examinations are transferred to the appropriate picture archiving and communication system (PACS) and radiology information system (RIS).
- Monitor image transmission, storage, retrieval, and workflow status to ensure that examinations are available for authorized clinical review.
- Identify and resolve routine image processing, acquisition, and data transfer issues within the scope of technical responsibility.
- Escalate system failures, missing images, incorrect patient associations, and other information integrity concerns promptly.
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of patient imaging data in accordance with facility policies and applicable privacy requirements.
- Coordinate with radiologists and referring clinicians to clarify examination requirements, urgent imaging priorities, and technical concerns.
- Ensure that urgent or critical imaging requests are prioritized according to established clinical escalation procedures.
- Communicate relevant technical limitations or examination difficulties to the appropriate clinical personnel.
- Support radiologists by ensuring that imaging studies are complete, appropriately documented, and technically suitable for interpretation.
- Avoid providing unauthorized diagnostic interpretations and refer clinical findings or concerns to appropriately qualified clinicians.
- Assist with specialized procedures, image-guided examinations, or intraoperative imaging when appropriately trained and authorized.
- Coordinate imaging procedures with relevant clinical teams to ensure that equipment, staff, and patient preparation requirements are in place.
- Verify that procedural equipment, sterile supplies, and protective measures are available when required for specialized examinations.
- Follow established safety procedures for mobile imaging in wards, emergency departments, operating theatres, and other clinical environments.
- Ensure that mobile imaging equipment is positioned and operated safely around patients, staff, and nearby equipment.
- Apply appropriate radiation protection measures for staff, patients, and other individuals during mobile and fixed-room examinations.
