Role DescriptionSocial Media Director – Digital Growth & Community EngagementBlack At is seeking a highly strategic, creative, and results-driven Social Media Director to lead the growth of our digital community and social media ecosystem.
This is more than a traditional social media management position. The successful candidate will play a critical leadership role in scaling BLKAT.org as a new social engagement platform, building an active global audience, increasing membership registrations, driving website and app traffic, and converting social media followers into engaged platform users.
The Social Media Director will oversee Black At's presence across Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, X, and emerging digital channels while developing strategies that position BLKAT.org as a destination for Black creativity, professional networking, industry opportunities, and global collaboration.
The ideal candidate combines strong social media expertise with a startup growth mindset, understands digital communities, and can translate audience engagement into measurable platform adoption.
Key Responsibilities1. Digital Platform Growth & User Acquisition- Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy to increase BLKAT.org registrations, active users, and community participation.
- Drive qualified traffic from established social media channels to BLKAT.org.
- Build campaigns that convert social media followers into registered platform members.
- Develop strategies to increase user retention, repeat visits, and engagement within the platform.
- Identify opportunities for organic growth, referrals, partnerships, and digital acquisition campaigns.
- Collaborate with the technology and product teams to improve the user experience and platform adoption.
- Lead Black At's global social media strategy across all major platforms.
- Develop a consistent brand voice that reflects Black At's global mission, creativity, cultural relevance, and executive network.
- Create monthly and quarterly content calendars aligned with organizational priorities.
- Develop campaigns supporting Black At events, partnerships, masterclasses, mentorship programs, and global initiatives.
- Identify emerging social media trends and opportunities to position Black At as a leading voice in the global creative economy.
- Build and nurture a highly engaged global community of creatives, professionals, executives, entrepreneurs, and brands.
- Develop initiatives that encourage meaningful interactions, networking, and collaboration within BLKAT.org.
- Create engagement strategies that motivate members to publish content, participate in discussions, and explore opportunities.
- Establish relationships with creators, influencers, industry leaders, and community ambassadors.
- Support the growth of Black At's digital community across Africa, North America, Europe, and other international markets.
- Lead the development of compelling digital content, including short-form videos, interviews, executive insights, event highlights, and community storytelling.
- Work with designers, videographers, content creators, and external partners to produce high-quality digital assets.
- Create campaigns that promote BLKAT.org's features, benefits, and membership opportunities.
- Develop audience-specific content strategies for creatives, brands, executives, and emerging professionals.
- Ensure content is optimized for reach, discoverability, engagement, and conversion.
- Establish measurable KPIs for audience growth, website traffic, user acquisition, and engagement.
- Monitor platform performance using social media analytics, Google Analytics, and other relevant tools.
- Track social media conversion rates, membership registrations, engagement rates, and active users.
- Produce weekly performance updates and monthly growth reports.
- Use audience insights and performance data to continuously improve campaigns.
- Collaborate with Black At's leadership team to support international events and strategic initiatives.
- Work with corporate partners, creators, and influencers to amplify campaigns and attract new audiences.
- Support digital promotion around major industry engagements, including Cannes Lions, Africa Tech Festival, DARE Awards, and other Black At initiatives.
- Develop digital campaigns that connect Black At's offline events with ongoing engagement on BLKAT.org.
- Demonstrated experience in social media marketing, digital growth, audience acquisition, and community management.
- Proven ability to grow social media audiences and translate engagement into website traffic, registrations, or platform adoption.
- Experience managing social media for a startup, digital platform, creative agency, technology company, or global brand.
- Strong understanding of social media algorithms, content optimization, and digital marketing trends.
- Experience developing and executing organic and paid social media campaigns.
- Proficiency with social media management tools, analytics platforms, and performance reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong creative storytelling abilities and an understanding of culturally relevant content.
- Experience managing creators, influencers, and digital communities.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced remote environment.
- Understanding of Black creative communities and the global cultural landscape.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Experience
- Experience launching or scaling a social networking platform, online community, or digital startup.
- Knowledge of user acquisition funnels, growth marketing, and retention strategies.
- Experience with community-led growth, ambassador programs, and referral campaigns.
- Familiarity with digital product launches and app marketing.
- Experience working across international markets, particularly Africa, Europe, and North America.
The Social Media Director will be evaluated against measurable outcomes, including:

- Traffic Generation: Growth in qualified website and app traffic originating from social media channels.
- Audience Expansion: Growth in followers and reach across Black At's social platforms.
- Engagement: Increased participation, content interactions, and community activity.

- Campaign Performance: Successful execution of digital campaigns supporting Black At initiatives and partnerships.

- Audit Black At's existing social media presence and BLKAT.org user journey.
- Develop a comprehensive social media and platform growth strategy.
- Establish performance benchmarks, reporting systems, and content calendars.
Days 31–60: Activation & Growth
- Launch targeted digital campaigns to drive BLKAT.org registrations.
- Implement creator engagement and community-building initiatives.
- Introduce consistent cross-platform campaigns designed to drive traffic and conversions.
Days 61–90: Scale & Optimization
- Evaluate campaign performance and optimize user acquisition strategies.
- Introduce referral, ambassador, and retention initiatives.
- Present a six-month growth roadmap with measurable targets for membership, traffic, and engagement.
