Social Media Strategist (Pro Bono)

Professors Without Borders (PROWIBO) is an international charity dedicated to improving access to quality higher education worldwide. Inspired by the model of Doctors Without Borders, we deploy volunteer educators to partner institutions across the Global South. Our work contributes directly to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

Operating in over 16 countries and with a growing online community of 8,000+ followers, PROWIBO delivers teaching, mentoring, and capacity-building programmes that expand opportunities for students often overlooked by mainstream systems.

The Role

We are seeking a volunteer Social Media Strategist to shape the next phase of PROWIBO’s digital presence.

This is a voluntary, pro bono role suited to an experienced communications professional who wishes to use their skills for global impact. You will lead our social media strategy, help us tell powerful human stories, and grow our international reach.

This is a hands-on leadership role with scope to introduce new tools, workflows, and ideas, while guiding a small team of volunteer contributors.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver a cross-platform content strategy aligned with PROWIBO’s mission.

• Manage and grow our presence on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and X.

• Create engaging, original content that highlights our impact and stories.

• Mentor and support a small team of volunteer social media contributors.

• Introduce systems for planning, scheduling, and tracking performance.

• Monitor trends and strengthen engagement with online communities.

• Report on progress and adjust strategies based on insights.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ experience managing brand or nonprofit social media.

• Strong track record in content strategy, audience growth, and storytelling.

• Proficiency with scheduling tools, analytics, and basic design tools.

• Experience mentoring or managing junior colleagues or volunteers.

• Excellent writing and editing skills.

• Strong organisational and project management abilities.

• Alignment with PROWIBO’s mission and values.
