The role

PUR is seeking an experienced Sustainable Forest Management Consultant to develop a Sustainable Forest Management Plan for PUR's Coffee Agroforestry Program in Aceh, Indonesia.

This consultancy will support one of PUR's long-term agroforestry initiatives by developing practical forest management guidance that balances sustainable timber management, carbon sequestration, and productive coffee systems.

The main responsibilities in a non-exhaustive manner of this ambitious role will be:

The consultant will develop a comprehensive Sustainable Forest Management Plan tailored to smallholder coffee agroforestry systems in Aceh Province. The assignment also includes designing practical farmer training materials and providing technical recommendations to support long-term sustainable forest management.

The selected consultant will:

• Develop a Sustainable Forest Management Plan aligned with Gold Standard and SustainCERT requirements.
• Design sustainable harvesting and replanting strategies suitable for coffee agroforestry systems.
• Develop monitoring indicators and recommendations for long-term implementation.
• Prepare simplified guidance documents for field implementation.
• Develop practical training modules for farmers and implementing partners.
• Work closely with PUR's technical team to ensure all deliverables reflect project needs and Indonesian forestry regulations.

Job requirements

We are looking for a candidate with:

Education

• Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Forestry, Agroforestry, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline.

Experience

You should have:

• At least 5 years of experience developing forest management plans.
• Experience working on community forestry or agroforestry projects.
• Experience working in Indonesia (experience in Aceh or Sumatra is highly desirable).
• Experience with carbon projects (Gold Standard and/or Verra).
• Knowledge of Indonesian forestry regulations, timber legality, and community forestry.
• Experience engaging local stakeholders and facilitating participatory planning processes.

Skills

• Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
• Excellent project planning and time management.
• Ability to work independently.
• Professional working proficiency in English and Local Language (Aceh) is an advantage
• Experience using GIS and other relevant technical software is an advantage.
• Must have a legal work permit in Indonesia
