Want to turn your retail experience into a career in insights?
We're looking for a commercially-minded Retail Insights Analyst to join our team at Smollan supporting one of the world's leading FMCG businesses.
This is a rare opportunity to work directly within our client's customer teams, helping turn retail data into actionable recommendations that improve sales performance, availability, promotional execution and retailer engagement.
You'll be based within our client's Head Office in south west London for a minimum of three days per week, giving you exposure and visibility that would normally take years to achieve in a traditional analyst role. Working alongside Customer Account Managers and senior stakeholders, you'll help shape decisions that impact some of the UK's biggest retailers.
Whether you're a graduate looking to start your career, or you're currently an Assistant Store Manager, Department Manager or retail professional who enjoys using data to drive performance, this could be the perfect next step.
What You'll Be Doing
As part of the analytics team, you'll
Support the Account team in providing reports and insights to client teams
Translate EPOS, compliance, OSA and execution into clear, retailer-ready stories with a strong ‘so what / now what’
Embed insight-led ways of working within the customer team
Be the Smollan dashboard super-user and be the first point of call for reporting and metric reviews
Build the briefs for the Field Team and Partners, and consolidate data
Support the Smollan Account Managers and CAMs, by owning the data consolidation
Build and maintain the promotional plan for the retailer
Convert consolidated retailer plans into reasons to believe and feed into the Field Team brief
Build the Field brief ensuring ease of understanding and execution, including visual aids
Promotional Compliance & Execution
Own promotional compliance tracking and report into the CAMs with clear, actionable recommendations
Monitor performance in-flight and trigger course correction where needed
Stock & Availability (OSA)
Be the central point of contact for stock and availability insights, using OSA data, EPOS trends and field feedback
Work with our client's supply chain and Smollan teams to anticipate issues, align messaging and equip CAMs with clear external narratives
Reporting & Key Initiatives
Build and deliver monthly retailer performance packs, tailored to customer priorities and joint business plans
Work with Smollan account managers to report on execution of key initiatives, recommending course correction where needed
Provide concise, decision-ready reporting highlighting performance drivers, gaps to plan and recommended actions
What We're Looking For
You'll be naturally curious, analytical and commercially aware, with the confidence to turn data into meaningful business recommendations.
You'll ideally have
- Experience within a retail environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to identify trends and opportunities from data
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Highly proficient MS Office skills, particularly Excel
- Confidence working with data
- A proactive approach and genuine interest in retail performance
A degree is welcome but not essential. We're equally interested in candidates who have developed strong commercial and analytical skills through hands-on retail experience.
Why Join Us?
This is more than an analyst role. It's an opportunity to build your career within a global FMCG environment while working closely with major UK retailers and senior commercial stakeholders.
You'll gain valuable experience across insights, category management, account management and commercial analytics, opening doors to a wide range of future career opportunities.
What's In It For You?
- Direct exposure to one of the world's leading FMCG businesses as well as major UK retailers
- Ongoing development and career progression opportunities
- 24 days annual leave (increasing annually up to 29 days) + bank holidays
- Other benefits include: Medicash level 2, enhanced company pension, enhanced sick pay, life insurance, enhanced paternity leave, enhanced maternity leave, adoption leave, cycle to work scheme, gym discount scheme, referral programme + Perkbox and Taste Card
