Job Description This is a remote position. The Opportunity: At Pentoz, we specialize in building and modernizing digital commerce solutions for businesses across industries. As a Zen Cart Developer, you will take ownership of building, maintaining, and optimizing eCommerce websites using the Zen Cart platform. You’ll work closely with clients and internal teams to ensure seamless store functionality, secure transactions, and scalable customizations. This role is ideal for a developer who has deep experience with PHP-based shopping cart systems and enjoys working on both legacy and evolving eCommerce infrastructures. You Will Be Responsible For: Store Development and Customization: Designing and developing custom Zen Cart themes, modules, and templates tailored to specific business requirements. Code Optimization: Refactoring existing Zen Cart code for better performance, scalability, and maintainability. Payment & Shipping Integration: Implementing and configuring payment gateways (PayPal, Authorize.Net, Stripe, etc.) and shipping modules to ensure smooth order fulfillment. Security Management: Keeping Zen Cart installations secure by applying patches, updates, and following PCI compliance best practices. Data & Catalog Management: Developing scripts for importing/exporting product data, managing categories, SKUs, and bulk operations efficiently. Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnosing issues related to checkout, cart performance, plugins, or core functionality and resolving them promptly. Third-Party Integration: Integrating Zen Cart stores with CRMs, ERPs, and external APIs as needed for enhanced business workflows. Client Collaboration: Communicating technical decisions, progress, and solutions to clients or project managers effectively. This Role Is For You If: You have 2–5 years of hands-on experience developing with Zen Cart. You have strong knowledge of PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/jQuery. You’re comfortable working with Zen Cart core files, overrides, and custom plugins/modules. You have a solid understanding of eCommerce workflows, including order processing, shipping, and taxation. You can manage multiple projects and work independently in a remote setup. Bonus Points If You Have: Experience migrating stores from Zen Cart to modern platforms (e.g., WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento). Familiarity with SEO best practices for Zen Cart. Knowledge of cPanel, WHM, and web hosting environments. Experience with Git, SSH, and basic server-side operations. Background in developing multilingual or multi-currency stores.
