SOP: SOURCING DATA CENTER TECHNICIANS
1. JOB DESCRIPTION:
A simple way to explain it: when your home Wi-Fi goes down, you call customer care and they try to fix it over the phone. If that doesn’t work, they send a field technician to your home to fix it in person. This role is that field technician, except the work happens inside a data center rather than in people’s homes. Candidates should know fiber optics and be physically fit, since the job involves carrying heavy equipment. The role is straightforward, and there are plenty of qualified candidates available.
Candidates must be local to New Albany, Ohio, or willing to relocate. Relocation is acceptable, but candidates must clearly understand it is required, because the work is done in the data center. Tell every candidate the role is with Tenarai (formerly Infogain) for the end client Meta. Mention both names and explain they are the same company: Infogain rebranded and changed its name to Tenarai.
The schedule is about 12 hours per day, 4 days per week, and weekend work is required. The exact shift arrangement is shared after the offer. Onsite work is very important. The role is fully onsite at Meta’s New Albany data center. For any candidate whose commute is more than one hour, explain the onsite expectation in full detail and confirm they are okay with it. Get this confirmation from the candidate in writing and include it in the submission email.
Many candidates are being sourced now or have been sourced before, so duplicates are expected. Log every candidate’s information in the tracker maintained with Jai. Check the tracker before moving anyone forward to confirm the profile can proceed to interview.
Interview process: 30-minute technical round, 15-minute manager round with Meta.
Ideal Candidate Profile: Experience in one of the following roles:
- Data Center / Fiber Optic / Structured Cabling Technician
- Telecom / Network Deployment / Network Infrastructure Technician
Core Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience in fiber optics, structured cabling (including Cat6A), rack and stack, testing, and break-fix support.
- Proficiency with testing tools (OTDR, power meters, cable testers) and physical network troubleshooting (Layer 1).
- Experience using ticketing systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment Installation & Deployment: Install server racks and network equipment; connect switches; manage, label, and route fiber optic and copper cabling; support rack moves, upgrades, and decommissioning.
2. Network Testing: Test newly installed fiber and network circuits using OTDR and power meters to verify quality and signal strength.
3. Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose connectivity issues, replace faulty hardware (cables, optics, switches), and respond to critical outages.
4. Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance, clean fiber optic connectors, inspect routing, and support new build-outs.
5. Safety & Compliance: Follow data center safety procedures, use required PPE/ESD protection, and adhere to lockout/tagout protocols.
6. Collaboration: Work with engineering, facility, and supply chain teams; maintain ticket updates and provide clear shift handovers.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Experience with liquid-cooled data center racks, barcode scanning, asset tracking, and large hyperscale data centers.
- BICSI Installer or Technician certification.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly, stand/walk for extended periods, work on ladders/lifts, and handle small components in warm data center environments.
2. Sourcing Priorities
Check for potential duplicate submissions
Candidates may already have been submitted by another vendor.
Prioritize GC/USC candidates
Focus on Green Card holders (GC) and U.S. citizens (USC). Prioritize local candidates first, followed by non-local candidates who are genuinely willing to relocate to the job location.
Identify hands-on fiber splicing experience
Fiber splicing is a must-have. Look for evidence of actual splicing work in the resume or profile. General fiber installation, patching, or testing alone does not establish splicing experience.
Look for OSHA certification
OSHA certification is mandatory. Check whether OSHA 10, OSHA 30, or another accepted certification is listed. If it is missing or unclear, flag it for Recruiter verification rather than making assumptions.
3. Target Job Titles
Search across relevant titles rather than limiting the search to “Data Center Technician.” Prioritize profiles that combine fiber splicing with relevant cabling, testing, or data center infrastructure experience.
Priority
Target job titles
Primary
Data Center Technician; Fiber Optic Technician; Fiber Splicer; Fiber Optic Splicing Technician
Secondary
Structured Cabling Technician; Telecom Technician; Network Infrastructure Technician; Network Deployment Technician
Additional
Low Voltage Technician; Fiber Installation Technician; Telecommunications Field Technician; Data Center Deployment Technician
4. Keywords to Use While Sourcing
Fiber splicing — highest technical priority
Fiber Splicing; Fusion Splicing; Fiber Splicer; Fiber Optic Splicing; Fusion Splicer; Fiber Termination
Data center and cabling
Rack and Stack; Structured Cabling; Cat6A; Fiber Optics; Patch Panels; Switch Installation; Break-Fix
Testing tools
OTDR; Optical Power Meter; Cable Tester; Fiber Testing; Layer 1 Troubleshooting
Certification keywords
OSHA 10; OSHA 30; OSHA Certification; BICSI
Note: BICSI and fiber splicing certifications are good to have. OSHA certification and hands-on fiber splicing experience are mandatory. Do not rely only on keyword searches; flag missing details for clarification.
5. Boolean Search Strings
Search 1: Fiber splicing candidates
("fiber splicer" OR "fiber optic splicing" OR "fusion splicing" OR "fiber splicing technician") AND (OTDR OR "fiber optics" OR "fiber testing")
Search 2: Data center and infrastructure candidates
("data center technician" OR "data centre technician" OR "network infrastructure technician" OR "telecom technician") AND ("fiber splicing" OR "fusion splicing" OR "fiber splicer")
Search 3: Splicing with OSHA
("fiber splicer" OR "fiber optic technician" OR "telecom technician") AND (OSHA OR "OSHA 10" OR "OSHA 30")
Use these strings as starting points on LinkedIn, job portals, resume databases, and other sourcing platforms. Do not rely only on OSHA keywords: a candidate may have omitted certification details from their profile. Flag the information for Recruiter verification.
