Company Overview

We are working with an innovative, fast-growing engineering and manufacturing business specialising in the design, development and production of complex engineered systems.

The company is entering an exciting phase of growth, expanding its manufacturing capabilities and investing in modern facilities to support increasing production demands.

With a strong focus on technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement, the business offers an excellent opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team and contribute to the development and assembly of advanced mechanical systems.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Assembly Technician to join an expanding engineering and manufacturing team based in London.

This is a varied, practical role involving the assembly, integration and testing of mechanical components and engineered systems, supporting projects from early-stage development through to completed assemblies.

Working closely with engineering and production teams, you will help bring technical designs to life, identify assembly challenges and contribute to improvements in manufacturing processes.

This opportunity would suit an experienced technician or mechanical fitter who enjoys building things, solving technical problems and working in a fast-paced environment where initiative and practical engineering skills are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, fit and integrate mechanical components, sub-assemblies and complete engineered systems.
  • Work from engineering drawings, technical specifications and assembly instructions to ensure accurate builds.
  • Carry out mechanical fitting, alignment, fastening and installation of components and equipment.
  • Support the construction of prototypes, test rigs and production assemblies.
  • Assist engineering teams with the setup and execution of mechanical, fluid, thermal and electrical system tests.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or assembly-related issues, recommending practical solutions.
  • Support occasional basic electrical wiring and integration activities where required and appropriately trained.
  • Work collaboratively with design engineers to improve assembly methods, manufacturability and overall product reliability.
  • Conduct basic inspections and quality checks to ensure assemblies meet the required standards.
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment and materials to support efficient day-to-day operations.
  • Contribute to workshop organisation, equipment maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with the coordination of external suppliers and contractors for workshop equipment and installations when required.
  • Take a proactive approach to identifying bottlenecks and improving assembly efficiency.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Years' experience in mechanical assembly, engineering technician, mechanical fitting or a similar hands-on engineering role.
  • Strong practical experience assembling mechanical components, equipment or engineered systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and assembly instructions.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.
  • Good understanding of mechanical fitting, alignment, fastening and assembly techniques.
  • Experience supporting practical engineering builds, prototypes or manufacturing projects.
  • A relevant engineering apprenticeship, technical qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and a practical, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an engineering or manufacturing team.

Desirable:

  • Experience assembling complex mechanical equipment, industrial machinery or engineered systems.
  • Exposure to fluid handling, pipework, thermal systems or electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Experience supporting engineering testing, troubleshooting or prototype development.
  • Basic electrical wiring or mechanical-electrical integration experience.
  • Experience working in an R&D, prototyping or low-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with workshop equipment installations and contractor coordination.
  • A genuine interest in hands-on engineering, including personal projects, mechanical builds or fabrication.
  • A proactive mindset with the confidence to suggest improvements and solve technical challenges independently.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary of £40,000–£50,000 depending on experience.
  • Generous annual leave arrangements.
  • Relocation support where applicable.
  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging engineering and manufacturing projects.
  • A varied role combining mechanical assembly, prototyping, testing and hands-on problem-solving.
  • Access to modern workshop facilities and engineering equipment.
  • The chance to contribute to the growth of an expanding engineering and manufacturing business.
  • A collaborative environment offering opportunities for technical development and progression.
