Platform Engineer (Compute) – Systematic Trading – [London/Relocation available]
£180,000 + bonus & benefits |
The opportunity
A leading global systematic investment firm is looking for an experienced platform engineer to join its core compute team. The firm runs high-performance, data-intensive workloads across regions, and this team builds the infrastructure underneath them. You’ll architect and evolve the compute platform, working closely with engineering teams worldwide on infrastructure-as-code, observability and self-healing systems.
Why consider it?
- Hands-on engineering: you write production code and build internal tooling and APIs, not just run tickets.
- Real scale: large, global, performance-critical compute supporting research and trading.
- Influence: you help set best practice and mentor junior engineers.
- Automation-first culture: incidents lead to architectural fixes, not just firefighting.
What you’ll be doing
- Architecting and evolving scalable compute platforms using modern infrastructure engineering practices
- Building automation frameworks for provisioning, configuration management and lifecycle operations
- Developing internal tooling and APIs that hide infrastructure complexity and boost productivity
- Driving observability with telemetry pipelines for metrics, logs and traces
- Taking part in bulk server provisioning, including working with remote hands
- Partnering with software engineers on scalability, reliability and security
- Joining on-call and incident response, and turning postmortems into long-term improvements
What we’re looking for
Essential
- Expert-level Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu)
- Configuration management (Ansible, Chef or SaltStack)
- Python, Go or Rust for infrastructure tooling
- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or Pulumi)
- Cloud experience (AWS, GCP or Azure) across compute, storage, networking and IAM
- Monitoring and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Zabbix) plus logging and tracing (ELK, Fluentd, OpenTelemetry, Jaeger)
- Identity and access management (LDAP, Kerberos, OAuth2)
- Git workflows, test-driven infrastructure and a DevOps mindset
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar
