Media Sales Executive

The Worldfolio | Tokyo, Japan | Full-time, on-site

We’re looking for a commercially driven sales professional who enjoys meeting clients face to face, building relationships and closing deals.

Based in Tokyo, you will meet business leaders across Japan, understand their communication objectives and develop advertising and promotional partnerships across our international print and digital publications.

About The Worldfolio

The Worldfolio is an international media and advertising agency producing business interviews, industry reports and promotional campaigns in collaboration with international media partners.

Our work connects us with company executives, government officials and industry experts across sectors including technology, manufacturing, finance, tourism and education. We explore the businesses shaping economies and help companies communicate their stories to international audiences.

The Role

This position combines face-to-face sales, business development and client relationship management. You will take ownership of commercial opportunities, from researching prospective clients and presenting proposals to negotiating agreements and developing repeat business.

The role also involves working alongside our editorial team during executive interviews and coordinating with clients throughout the publication process. You should be willing to travel within Japan for client meetings, interviews and project activities.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead in-person meetings with company executives and PR, marketing and communications teams.
  • Understand client objectives and present tailored advertising, sponsorship and promotional opportunities.
  • Build relationships with decision-makers and develop opportunities for ongoing collaboration.
  • Prepare proposals, negotiate commercial terms and close deals.
  • Manage your sales pipeline, maintain consistent follow-up and work towards revenue targets.
  • Research companies and industries to prepare informed, persuasive presentations.
  • Support our journalists during executive interviews and coordinate with clients and internal teams on upcoming publications.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least three years of experience in sales, business development or account management with responsibility for generating revenue.
  • Proven experience in face-to-face selling, including presenting proposals, handling objections, negotiating and closing deals.
  • Strong client relationship skills, with the ability to build trust and develop repeat business.
  • Confidence communicating with senior executives and other decision-makers.
  • Commercial ambition, initiative and a consistent approach to following up on opportunities.
  • Business-level English, both written and spoken. Japanese language skills are an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel within Japan.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Experience in media or advertising is an advantage. We also welcome candidates from other industries who bring strong consultative sales and client relationship experience.

What We Offer

  • A fixed salary, monthly performance bonuses and sales commissions.
  • Two to three months of sales training.
  • Japanese visa support.
  • Opportunities for career progression and increased responsibility.
  • An international working environment with direct exposure to business leaders across a wide range of industries.
