Company Overview

We are working with an innovative, fast-growing engineering business developing cutting-edge technology to support the transition towards a more sustainable future.

The company is entering an exciting phase of growth, significantly expanding its manufacturing capabilities and scaling the production of complex engineered systems.

With a strong focus on innovation, technical excellence and continuous improvement, the business offers an opportunity to join a highly skilled team and play a pivotal role in shaping quality standards and processes within a growing manufacturing environment.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Quality Team Lead to take ownership of quality management processes within an expanding engineering and manufacturing operation based in London.

This role will focus on establishing, implementing and continuously improving Quality Management Systems (QMS), ensuring robust quality procedures are embedded throughout the product lifecycle, from early-stage design and development through to full-scale manufacturing.

Working closely with senior leadership, engineering and production teams, you will lead a growing quality function, overseeing Quality Engineers and ensuring that products and systems consistently meet the required standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building quality processes, developing teams and driving operational excellence within a fast-paced, technically challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the selection, implementation and ongoing management of an effective Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Develop, establish and maintain quality procedures, inspection processes and testing standards across manufacturing operations.
  • Embed quality requirements into product development and new product introduction (NPI) processes, working closely with engineering and R&D teams.
  • Review and optimise existing quality procedures, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency and product reliability.
  • Oversee inspections of manufactured components, assemblies and completed systems to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
  • Manage non-conformance reporting (NCR), root cause investigations, corrective actions and associated rework processes.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of Quality Engineers, providing technical guidance and day-to-day management.
  • Work collaboratively with manufacturing, engineering and testing teams to resolve complex quality-related challenges.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen quality standards and support increasing production volumes.
  • Establish appropriate quality reporting, documentation and traceability processes.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on quality performance, risks and improvement initiatives.
  • Support the ongoing development and expansion of the quality function as the business scales.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in Quality Engineering, Quality Management or a similar role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong experience selecting, implementing and maintaining Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Proven track record of establishing and managing effective quality control processes within manufacturing operations.
  • Previous experience leading, mentoring or managing Quality Engineers or technical quality teams.
  • Experience developing quality processes for new product introduction (NPI) and supporting products through to established manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of inspection, testing, non-conformance management and corrective action processes.
  • Ability to communicate quality performance, risks and improvement initiatives effectively to senior leadership.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving, with strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience establishing or scaling quality functions within growing manufacturing businesses.
  • Familiarity with recognised quality standards and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with complex engineered products, assemblies or industrial equipment.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end manufacturing quality processes, from initial design through to final product testing.
  • Experience supporting production scale-up or the introduction of new manufacturing facilities.
  • A proactive leadership style, with a willingness to support engineers and technicians in resolving complex technical challenges.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary of £60,000–£90,000 depending on experience.
  • Equity or share option opportunities.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Generous annual leave arrangements.
  • Relocation support where applicable.
  • Opportunity to lead and develop a growing quality function.
  • The chance to establish quality systems and influence manufacturing standards within an innovative, rapidly expanding engineering business.
  • A collaborative, technically challenging environment with significant opportunities for professional development.
