Senior / Staff Product Engineer (Applied AI)

About the Role

This is a senior or staff-level product engineering role at a fast-growing light industrial staffing marketplace, sitting at the intersection of applied AI and core platform engineering. You will wire frontier models and AI agents into production across the full stack, owning the systems that source, vet, match, and place workers at scale. The work is foundational: what you build here will power the company's operations for years to come.

What You'll Do

• Define how AI agents are applied across the product to automate the staffing pipeline, from sourcing and vetting through matching and placement.

• Architect and lead core backend systems, including real-time matching engines and autonomous vetting pipelines powered by ML and agents.

• Build agent harnesses, evaluation infrastructure, and model strategy that the broader product depends on.

• Own platform architecture with a view toward what the company will need one to two years out.

• Drive backend performance, reliability, and scale across distributed systems.

• Partner with engineering leadership on key architectural decisions around how agents are built, evaluated, and deployed.

• Integrate agent and AI layers with customers' operational systems, including HRIS, WMS, ERP, and TMS platforms.

What We're Looking For

• 5 to 10 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful time at high-growth startups rather than only large companies.

• Proven track record owning features or products end-to-end and delivering tangible business results at fast-moving companies.

• Hands-on experience building 0-to-1 agentic AI products in production, including harness design, orchestration patterns, and evals.

• Strong backend fundamentals: distributed systems, API design, data modelling, and query optimisation using Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js with PostgreSQL and Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar.

• Experience building front-end interfaces with React and React Native integrated with backend services.

• Background in one or more of: agentic or applied AI, matching and recommendation systems, multi-sided marketplaces, labor platforms, logistics, supply chain, or healthcare.

• Strong CS fundamentals, ideally from a rigorous technical degree program.

• Comfortable moving from architecture design docs to customer sites and letting field observations shape technical decisions.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $200,000 to $300,000 USD annually, plus equity. Visa sponsorship is available.

Fully remote within the United States. Primary hub is San Francisco, CA.
