Role Overview This role is about building the virtual aircraft that accelerates SkyDrive’s path to flight. You will be part of the Modelling & Simulation team responsible for real-time capable, whole-aircraft simulation models deployed in piloted engineering flight simulators and analysis environments. Your outputs will directly support aircraft design decisions, safety-of-flight readiness prior to flight test, and certification activities. You will integrate models into our simulation devices and collaborate across flight controls, avionics, electrical/power systems, flight sciences, and our test pilots — with a clear focus on credibility, traceability, and repeatability. In addition, you may develop and maintain the software infrastructure that makes simulation dependable at scale: requirements and configuration control, automated testing/regression, data visualisation, and workflow automation. Job Highlights eVTOL is not incremental aerospace. It demands tight coupling between flight control, power electronics, and vehicle physics under aggressive constraints and it demands that we demonstrate robustness, not just performance. Simulation is the proving ground. It is where we iterate fast, verify behaviour early, and reduce risk before hardware and flight time become the limiting factors. SkyDrive is expanding its simulation capability to support design, test, and certification in a disciplined way. You will join a small expert team with real ownership and a steep learning curve; the expectation is not simply to “run sims”, but to strengthen the engineering standard of simulation itself, and to turn it into a capability the programme can rely on. Essential Skills 5+ years’ experience in modelling & simulation and/or simulation software engineering for complex, dynamic systems. Demonstrated ability to develop and integrate whole-system simulation components (models, interfaces, data, and workflows) in a disciplined engineering environment. Strong programming capability in C++ and/or Python . Experience building or maintaining simulation infrastructure that improves reliability and repeatability (e.g., configuration/version control, automated testing/regression, scenario execution, run logging and replay). Experience supporting simulation activities with engineering stakeholders (e.g., controls/systems engineers, flight test engineers, pilots), including preparing scenarios, executing runs, and communicating results. Desirable Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink , model-based design, and/or automatic code generation . Experience integrating simulation with hardware or simulated hardware , real-time execution constraints, and/or visual/audio/host environments. Knowledge of aircraft, flight dynamics, and aircraft systems or demonstrable ability to ramp quickly. Experience with verification and validation of simulation. Exposure to simulator qualification practices and/or using simulation to support certification activities. Experience in aircraft flight or ground test environments, or direct support to test campaigns. Skills for Collaborative Success Motivated by the technical and organisational challenge of delivering an eVTOL that is safe, robust, and certifiable , not only novel. Thinks in systems and interfaces : anticipates programme and internal-user needs, and designs simulation solutions that are repeatable, traceable, and release-grade . Demonstrates ownership and delivery discipline: meets commitments through clear planning, configuration control, and structured execution , with the ability to escalate risks early. Improves team throughout by identifying bottlenecks and implementing automation that turns simulation into a scalable capability. Communicates clearly and documents consistently: produces usable artefacts so others can reproduce results and rely on the simulator with confidence.
