ROLE OVERVIEW
The Content Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing, executing, and optimizing content strategies that increase brand awareness, audience engagement, lead generation, and customer retention. This role requires a creative and analytical marketer who can produce high-quality content, manage content calendars, coordinate cross-channel campaigns, and leverage performance insights to continuously improve results. You will oversee the content lifecycle from planning and creation to publication, promotion, and performance analysis, ensuring all content aligns with the organization's goals, brand voice, and audience needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Growth Ownership
- Own the growth targets for your assigned brands — audience, list, leads, and revenue or donations — and report against them monthly
- Build content strategies designed to move a specific number, with the intended outcome stated before anything is written
- Diagnose underperformance and act on it: identify what stalled, form a hypothesis, test the change, report the result
- Bring a monthly point of view on what to do more of, less of, and stop entirely, backed by data rather than preference
Social
- Plan and write social content built for reach, saves, shares, and follows — not just posting cadence
- Write hooks, captions, and scripts for short-form video and carousels, working with designers and editors on execution
- Grow follower count and engagement on assigned accounts, and convert that audience into subscribers, leads, or donors
Email
- Write campaigns, sequences, and flows that drive opens, clicks, and conversions — welcome, nurture, abandoned cart, win-back, donor journeys
- Grow the email list through lead magnets, opt-in copy, and on-site and in-content capture
- Segment and personalize so the right message reaches the right audience, and improve performance sequence by sequence
Web, SEO, and Conversion
- Write and optimize blogs, ads, landing pages, and website copy for search intent, traffic growth, and conversion
- Apply SEO fundamentals in practice: keyword research, on-page optimization, internal linking, content structure
- Refresh and rebuild underperforming content on the basis of data
Operating
- Own and maintain editorial calendars across assigned brands, ensuring consistent output and on-time publication
- Collaborate with designers, video editors, paid media specialists, and account leads so campaigns work as one thing, not four
- Protect brand voice, factual accuracy, and quality on every piece that ships
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Please do not apply unless you meet every point below.
Experience
- 3+ years of professional, full-time experience in content marketing, content strategy, or digital marketing — agency, in-house, or publishing
- Experience running content across more than one channel; social and email at minimum, not blog-only
- Experience running content for more than one brand or account simultaneously
- Comfortable working in analytics dashboards and building a monthly performance report without help
- Familiarity with WordPress or an equivalent CMS
- Proof of numbers required. You must be able to name at least two of the following and state the figure, the timeframe, and what you did to cause it:
- – Follower or audience growth on a social account you ran
- – Email list growth, and the opt-in mechanism you built
- – Leads generated through content
- – Sales, revenue, or donations attributable to content you produced
- – Organic traffic or ranking growth
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, English, Journalism, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience with a strong portfolio will be considered.
- Understanding of SEO principles, content optimization techniques, and keyword research methodology
- Experience managing editorial calendars and coordinating multiple content projects simultaneously
- Working knowledge of content performance analytics and reporting tools
- Comfortable in Microsoft Teams, ClickUp, WordPress, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Microsoft Office 365, and Google Workspace
Certifications (mandatory)
- A mandatory minimum 8-week copywriting certification or program from AKC, Maham Kabani, Shehzad Khan, Copy Posse, or an equivalent recognized program. Certificate or proof of completion must be submitted with your application.
Considered an asset
- HubSpot Content Marketing or Email Marketing certification, Google Analytics (GA4) certification, and any Semrush Academy or SEO certification.
COMMUNICATION AND WORKSPACE REQUIREMENTS
Communication
- Professional written and spoken English
- Confident presenting performance data directly to clients
- Responsive across Microsoft Teams during work hours, camera on for scheduled calls
Technical
- 16GB RAM, Intel i5 10th gen or Apple M1 or above
- 25 Mbps down / 10 Mbps up, with a backup connection
- Power backup covering a full 8-hour shift
- Working webcam and headset
- Dedicated, quiet workspace
PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS
Written Test Task (mandatory)
- Shortlisted candidates must complete a written test task with a 48-hour turnaround. This is briefed against a real client scenario and is assessed on strategy and judgement, not just prose. It is not optional and cannot be substituted with additional portfolio pieces.
Portfolio (mandatory)
- All items below must be submitted at the point of application. Incomplete submissions are not reviewed, and we do not request missing items after the fact.
- One email sequence — a full flow or campaign series with metrics, not a single standalone email
- Two ads — Meta, Google, or equivalent paid creative copy
- One sales page or long-form landing page
- One long-form editorial piece, 1,000+ words, live link preferred
- Two social media post samples with metrics
