Health & Safety Manager

Role Description The Health & Safety Manager will oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental practices that support the organization’s programs and remote operations. This part-time remote role involves assessing risks related to program activities, creating and updating safety policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with relevant occupational health and safety standards. The Health & Safety Manager will design and deliver safety training and awareness sessions to staff, volunteers, and partners, and provide guidance on incident reporting, emergency response, and preventive measures. The role also includes collaborating with leadership to integrate health and safety considerations into project planning, monitoring safety performance, and preparing reports and recommendations to promote a safe, sustainable working environment for all stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in Health & Safety, Occupational Health, and Environment Health and Safety (EHS), with the ability to develop and implement robust safety frameworks.
• Experience in Safety Training, including designing and delivering training materials, workshops, and coaching tailored to diverse audiences.
• Relevant professional certification such as NEBOSH or equivalent, and familiarity with applicable health and safety regulations and best practices.
• Strong analytical and risk assessment skills, with the capacity to identify hazards, propose mitigation measures, and monitor safety performance.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with remote, cross-cultural teams and explain complex safety concepts clearly.
• Proven ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage part-time responsibilities efficiently, and prioritize tasks across multiple projects.
• Experience in nonprofit, community development, or youth-focused organizations is an advantage, along with a commitment to safeguarding and child protection principles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a related field is preferred.
