About the PositionWe are seeking a specialist with proven, hands-on experience locating, accessing, and extracting shipment-level customs records, bills of lading, and import/export transaction data from multiple countries.
This is a specialized data acquisition position, not a general import/export, logistics, or market research role.
We are specifically looking for someone who understands how shipment data is collected, where the underlying records originate, which sources provide historical data, and how to obtain detailed records efficiently.
Required Country ExperienceWe are particularly interested in shipment records involving:
- United States
- India
- Vietnam
- Pakistan
- Mexico
Experience obtaining records from additional countries is an advantage.
What You Must Be Able to Do- Independently identify and access official, commercial, or other lawful sources of shipment-level customs data.
- Extract actual importer and exporter names, product descriptions, HS codes, shipment dates, quantities, and declared values where available.
- Retrieve historical shipment records, ideally covering multiple years.
- Trace shipments between specific manufacturers and their overseas customers.
- Identify the country of origin, destination, and transaction details where disclosed.
- Research export prices and calculate shipment-level unit values when reliable value and quantity data exist.
- Work with large datasets, including bulk extraction, structured exports, and database queries.
- Explain the source, completeness, accuracy, and limitations of the extracted records.
Applicants must have previous practical experience in at least one of the following:
- Direct extraction of customs declaration or shipment manifest records.
- Acquisition of bill of lading datasets.
- Working with customs data providers such as Panjiva, ImportGenius, Volza, Datamyne, or equivalent services.
- Building or maintaining shipment-level import/export datasets from legally accessible sources.
Experience with UN Comtrade, Trade Map, or aggregated trade statistics alone is NOT sufficient.
Important: What We Are NOT Looking ForThis position is not suitable for general import/export coordinators, freight forwarding specialists, customs clearance agents without data extraction experience, or researchers who only know how to search publicly available trade statistics.
- We need someone who has already obtained detailed shipment records professionally and can demonstrate that experience.
