Role Description As a Lead Robotics & Hardware Engineer (Teleoperation & Robot Data Collection), you will own the design, development, and integration of hardware systems that enable large-scale robotic teleoperation and data capture for Cruq AI’s automation platform. In this full-time remote role, you will architect and prototype electronics and mechanical subsystems, including sensors, controllers, and communication interfaces, to support reliable robot operation in diverse environments. You will collaborate closely with software, AI, and operations teams to define hardware requirements, integrate perception and control modules, and optimize systems for robust data collection pipelines. Day-to-day responsibilities include circuit design and validation, selection and evaluation of components, hardware debugging, and creation of test rigs and procedures to ensure safety, reliability, and maintainability. You will also guide hardware standards, documentation, and best practices, mentor team members, and work with external partners or vendors as needed to scale manufacturing and deployment.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in hardware development, covering end-to-end lifecycle from concept and prototyping to testing and deployment.
- Strong skills in circuit design and electronics hardware design, including schematic creation, PCB layout review, and power, signal, and sensor interfacing.
- Proficiency with computer hardware and embedded systems, including microcontrollers, single-board computers, communication buses, and hardware–software integration.
- Hands-on experience building and integrating robotics hardware, such as actuators, drivers, sensors, motor controllers, and safety systems for teleoperation.
- Experience designing systems for large-scale robot data collection: sensor selection (e.g., cameras, IMUs, depth sensors), synchronization, logging, and data integrity.
- Familiarity with industry-standard tools (e.g., CAD for mechanical integration, EDA tools for electronics, lab equipment for testing and measurement).
- Knowledge of robotics middleware and interfaces (e.g., ROS)
