Occupational Health & Safety Specialist

Role Description The Occupational Health & Safety Specialist will support the PE-VC Society in designing and overseeing health, safety, and environment protocols for remote activities, online events, and any occasional physical engagements related to society initiatives. This part-time remote role involves assessing potential risks, recommending preventive measures, and ensuring compliance with relevant occupational health and safety standards. The specialist will create clear safety guidelines, conduct virtual safety briefings when needed, and develop documentation and checklists for society members and event participants. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing planned activities for safety implications, advising on ergonomics and mental well-being for remote work, preparing incident response procedures, and coordinating with society leadership to maintain a safe and compliant operating environment.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Health & Safety and Occupational Health skills, with the ability to apply them to academic and professional settings.
• Candidates should possess Environment Health and Safety (EHS) skills, including risk assessment, compliance awareness, and implementation of preventive measures.
• Candidates should possess Workplace Safety skills, including hazard identification, ergonomic best practices, and remote work safety recommendations.
• Candidates should possess Safety Training skills, with experience designing and delivering clear, accessible training materials or sessions.
• Relevant experience in occupational health, safety management, or EHS in corporate, academic, or startup environments is beneficial.
• Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices, including risk management and incident reporting, is preferred.
• Strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently in a remote, part-time capacity.
• A degree or professional certification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, or a related field is an advantage.
