Senior Health & Safety Specialist

Role Description The Senior Health & Safety Specialist is a part-time, remote role responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs that support Houston Women in VC’s community and operations. This role includes assessing occupational health and safety risks, advising on environment health and safety (EHS) best practices, and recommending controls and procedures to reduce hazards. The specialist will create and update workplace safety policies, guidelines, and tools suitable for remote and hybrid work settings, events, and partner spaces. Day-to-day tasks include conducting risk assessments, reviewing incident reports, coordinating corrective actions, and delivering safety training and awareness initiatives to staff, volunteers, and community members. The Senior Health & Safety Specialist will collaborate with leadership and partner organizations to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and to embed safety culture into programs and events.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in Health & Safety and Occupational Health, with experience designing and managing safety programs.
• Practical knowledge of Environment Health and Safety (EHS) and Workplace Safety, including risk assessment and hazard control.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective Safety Training and educational materials to diverse audiences.
• Experience interpreting and applying relevant local and national health and safety regulations and standards.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple priorities, and communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Relevant certification (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHST, or equivalent) and a degree in Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
• Experience supporting safety for events, coworking spaces, or professional communities, and familiarity with inclusive, trauma-informed safety practices is an asset.
