We are looking to hire a self-motivated Project Controls Manager/Project Accountant - working hours 11.00 to 20.00 - to support one of our growing clients.
The role is based in our Shared Service Center in Bucharest and it’s a fully remote type of work.
The Project Controls Manager is responsible for ensuring strong financial and operational control over engineering and construction projects, with a particular focus on project forecasting, cost-to-complete (CTC), change orders, contract administration, cost control and monthly financial reporting. The role acts as a key connection between Project Management, Finance/Accounting and Business Unit leadership, ensuring that project data used for forecasting, revenue recognition and reporting is accurate, complete and timely.
Key Responsibilities
- Project forecasting & CTC: Lead monthly project forecasts, review cost-to-complete estimates and challenge unrealistic assumptions or missing cost drivers. Analyze changes in cost, revenue, margin and percentage of completion.
- Change orders: Monitor contract modifications, scope changes and unpriced change orders; evaluate their scope, pricing, schedule and cost impact, maintain the Change Order Log and ensure appropriate reflection in project forecasts and ERP.
- Contract & project setup: Ensure contracts, SOWs, pricing, milestones and payment terms are correctly reflected in project and ERP setup and investigate discrepancies.
- Revenue recognition support: Provide Accounting with project-level information required for percentage-of-completion/ASC 606, including actual and forecast costs, contract values, change orders and project status. Identify issues such as forward losses, uninstalled materials, rework or other project inefficiencies.
- Monthly close: Support monthly financial closing, investigate significant variances in project cost, revenue, margin, billing and forecasts, and coordinate resolution of discrepancies with Finance.
- Controls & compliance: Maintain accurate forecasts, project control logs, change-order records and audit documentation while ensuring appropriate approvals and segregation of duties.
Ideal Profile
A highly analytical and detail-oriented professional with strong commercial awareness and the confidence to challenge project assumptions. Relevant expertise includes engineering/construction project accounting, cost control, forecasting, cost-to-complete, change management, earned value/percentage-of-completion concepts and financial reporting.
This is is a project finance + project controls role. The person owns/co-ordinates the quality of project-level financial information—particularly forecasting, CTC, change orders, project performance and variance analysis—while Accounting retains responsibility for final ASC 606 decisions, revenue recognition methodology, reconciliations and journal entries.
Required Qualifications
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal
- Degree in Finance or Accounting
- 5-7+ years of experience in a finance/accounting/project accounting role.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics is preferred.
- Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and basic data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with high-volume transactions and meet deadlines.
