Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-time

Experience: 4+ years

About the Company

We are a group of technology companies. The first is an AI-powered voice and web agent platform that helps businesses handle conversations and customer interactions at scale. The second is a safety technology company building a mobile and web platform that helps people stay safe through safety navigation, trusted circles, and emergency features, and helps organisations meet their duty of care.

Both products run on mobile (iOS and Android), web and an internal admin platform. Across both, we hold to one engineering standard: if it ships, it must work.

About the Role

We are looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer who will be the final gate before anything reaches our users. You will work across both companies, validating releases, protecting production, and making sure that features, especially our emergency and safety-critical ones, work every time they are used.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You will not be handed a list of test cases and left to tick them off. You will decide what needs testing, find what others miss, and be trusted to say “this is not ready to ship.”

Key Responsibilities

  • Test both products every day across staging and production environments, covering mobile (iOS and Android), web and admin platforms
  • Validate all new features and bug fixes in staging before release, and give QA sign-off as part of our release approval process
  • Test safety-critical features thoroughly and frequently, including emergency alerts, live audio and video streaming, location sharing and notification delivery
  • Test map and routing logic, including risk scoring, route calculation and recalculation, and signal reporting and privacy behaviour
  • Run regression testing on every release to confirm that existing functionality still works
  • Test user, admin and company workflows, API behaviour, authentication and security, notifications and messaging, and billing and subscriptions where they apply
  • Check that releases do not degrade performance, including response times, API performance and mobile responsiveness
  • Verify rollback readiness before release, and monitor production after deployment
  • Log every bug clearly, with title, affected system, environment, reproduction steps, screenshots or video, expected behaviour and actual behaviour, and classify severity correctly
  • Escalate critical issues immediately, and re-test fixes and confirm they are resolved
  • Build and maintain automated tests across unit, integration, end-to-end and mobile layers, and help integrate them into our CI/CD pipeline
  • Check translations and layouts across languages in the multi-language mobile app
  • Attend daily standups to report production issues, critical bugs, testing progress and blockers
  • Submit a weekly QA report to leadership every Friday covering bugs found, bugs fixed, pending bugs, production issues and platform stability
  • Take part in post-incident reviews and help ensure the same issue does not happen twice

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience as a QA Engineer or in a similar role, testing mobile and web applications
  • Strong experience in manual testing, including test planning, exploratory testing and regression testing
  • Hands-on experience testing mobile apps on both iOS and Android, ideally React Native applications
  • Experience testing APIs (for example with Postman or similar tools) and understanding how front end, back end and databases interact
  • Experience with test automation (for example Cypress, Playwright, Appium, Detox or similar) and with CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong bug reporting skills: clear, reproducible and well documented
  • A solid understanding of release processes, staging and production environments, and release gates
  • Comfort working directly with engineers and leadership, including raising difficult issues
  • Excellent written communication, with the ability to produce clear weekly reports
  • A reliable home setup for remote work, including a stable, good-quality internet connection and the ability to join calls without interruption
  • Genuinely curious about what we are building, keen to contribute, and ready to take real ownership of quality

Nice to Have

  • Experience testing safety-critical, real-time or emergency features such as live streaming, location tracking or alerting systems
  • Experience with load and performance testing
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools
  • Experience testing multi-language applications
  • Experience supporting more than one product or team at the same time

What Makes You a Great Fit

You care deeply about whether something works for a real person at the worst possible moment. You are thorough without being slow, direct without being difficult, and comfortable owning the final decision on whether a release is ready. You like working in a small, fast team where your work visibly protects users and the business.
